POSITION: Building Maintenance Intern

(Available June 13, 2022)

LOCATION: JCPS Facility Services

SALARY: $10/hour

REPORTS TO: Facility Services Coordinator

JOB GOALS: The primary purpose of this position is to provide a work-based learning opportunity to students interested in a career pathway in plumbing, electrical, and/or HVAC repair. Students will experience a real-world work environment where they can develop durable employability and technical skills, while exploring post-secondary career and educational goals.

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES:

• Rising or current senior enrolled in Johnston County Public Schools

• 2.8 GPA

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of safe and efficient use of tools and equipment.

• Knowledge of safety hazards, rules, regulations, and follows safety programs and precautions.

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

• Ability to work effectively with others as a team player.

• Must earn a high school diploma by June 2023.

• Must be 18 by August 1, 2023.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Observe and perform general, routine maintenance work related to the assembling, installation, or repair of plumbing and HVAC systems and equipment.

• Observe and perform preventative maintenance work such as inspecting and replacing HVAC and plumbing components.

• Observes the assembling, installation, or repair of electrical systems.

• Cleans equipment, parts, or tools to maintain them in good working order.

• Performs other related work as required or assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, talking, seeing, hearing, & repetitive motion.

• Must be able to lift 40 lbs.

• Must be able to climb ladders and stairs

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have reliable transportation to and from the work site.

• Must pass a drug screening and background screening.

• Student intern will be required to enroll in and fulfill the course requirements for CTE Internship at their high school.
