A civil engineering consulting firm engaged in a variety of multi-disciplined projects and specializing in public works and building and safety services is seeking Building Inspectors. The majority of our clients are government agencies, whom we assist with plan review and building inspection services.
We are currently seeking a Building Inspector to inspect work for compliance with municipal codes and regulations governing building construction, alteration, and repair. Candidates should have the following:
Work involves responsibility for inspecting a variety of buildings and construction projects to determine whether plans, workmanship, and materials conform with legally established requirements. The inspector will work independently on field inspections and must make decisions exercising technical judgment. Responsibilities may include:
Inspecting new construction for possession of permits;
Checking for conformity with building codes and approved plans and specification requirements
Checking for possession of permit and conformity to law, all alterations and major repairs, additions, and minor repairs to building and other structures.
Performing business occupancy inspections, check for proper license and proper building construction.
Inspecting old and dangerous structures which may be subject to condemnation, especially for structural, safety, and other hazards; condemns structures which jeopardize public health, safety, and welfare.
Interpreting and explaining building ordinances, codes, and regulations to builders, contractors, home owner, and other interested parties.
Analyzing applicable codes, standards and project contract documents and monitors construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents;
Maintaining or preparing a variety of records, including daily/weekly progress reports, material accounting records, change orders and record drawings;
Reviewing new projects for constructability;
Preparing monthly progress payment quantities/requests;
Performing and/or evaluating tests and inspections
Providing general inspection on all contractor and subcontractor work to assure a safe and workmanlike operation;
Monitoring contractors' compliance with approved Quality Control Plan;
Making recommendations for improvements to standard construction QC provisions as they apply in the field; and assuring compliance with approved submittals.
Perform related work as required.
Experience at the journeyman level in a wide variety of skilled residential and commercial construction, and graduation from high school.
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and techniques involved in building construction, repair, and alteration.
Considerable knowledge of possible defects and flaws in building construction, and of effective corrective measures.
Considerable knowledge of all regulations and laws relating to building construction and zoning.
Ability to detect and locate defective workmanship and materials and to ascertain the stage of construction when defects are most easily found and remedied.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, craftsmen, building owners, contractors, and the general public.
Ability to understand and work from plans, drawings, and diagrams.
Ability to present ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
ICC certified Combination Residential and Commercial Building Inspector. Please do not submit your resume if you do not have or cannot obtain this certification within the next 3-6 months.
Three (3) years of building inspection experience in a building and safety services environment for residential and commercial improvements.
