Building Code Enforcement Supervisor (Multi-trades)Classification Title: Building Inspector 3, C26Location: 440 Court Street, Clearwater, FL 33756Schedule: Monday- Friday, 7:30 am- 4:30 pmThis is a highly independent position supporting the Building Department. This job performs advanced technical and supervisory work. The Building Inspector 3 for building enforcement entails three different aspects. The job's primary duties revolve around the enforcement of Florida Building Code through preparation of documents for prosecution, following-up on inspections to verify compliance, and representing the county as necessary in court hearings. The second part is performing field inspections to determine compliance with County building codes. As a supervisory position, may also furnish technical and assistance to Building Inspectors 1 and 2 regarding unusual or difficult problems encountered. Lastly, this position may require occasion to cross train other inspectors in additional trades to assist them in becoming multi-licensed.What Would You Do?Building Enforcement / Administrative-* Works in conjunction with legal department in preparation for prosecution of building code violators * Represent the County at court hearings for Local Ordinance Violation court and Magistrate cases. * Ensure cases are followed through to full compliance. * Investigates complaints of defective building installations reported as safety hazards; makes re-inspections as required; reports violations.Building Inspector-*
Perform various inspections from all trades * Review inspections in response to complaints or re-inspections originally conducted by building / trade inspectors * Conduct inspections as assigned by Chief Building Inspector (specifically Multi-trade)Training Officer-* Train inspectors on Building Code enforcement procedures * Conduct On-the-Job Cross training for inspectors as needed (specifically Multi-trade)* Prepare and provide intradepartmental training on new policies or procedures * May assist in the initial training of building Inspectors 1 & 2* Plans, assigns, directs, and reviews the work of subordinate inspectors; provides assistance and advice on difficult and unusual situations when necessary. * Provides onsite building inspections as necessary. * Furnishes technical advice and information to field and office. * Researches abandoned permits and violations. * Documents legal procedures and attends court cases. * Interviews and assists in the hiring of new staff, trains new personnel and conducts performance evaluations;* Plans, coordinates, and conducts training courses for field inspectors when so directed;* Assists in the preparation for prosecution of code violators and represents the County at court hearings;* Prepares and maintains technical records and reports and performs other clerical and administrative work;* Performs as Division Supervisor * Assists in Community Rating System Program reviews by gathering, investigating, and relaying information for audits. * Coordinates with EOC and fellow inspectors on disaster damage assessment efforts. * May perform data entry and retrieval functions in researching violations and scheduling inspections. * Performs other related job duties as assigned.What You Need To Have?* Valid certificate as a Building Inspector and second trade license (second trade in electrical or 1 & 2 Family license preferred) recognized by the state of Florida.* 6 years of experience as a trade's foreman, contractor, architect, engineer or similar supervisory level. * Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction in related field and 2 years as building inspector;
