Job DescriptionTo provide the technical expertise necessary to efficiently manage modern "Smart Buildings" and optimize energy efficiency in campus facilities. The position will be integral to the energy management team. The sophistication of the technology associated with Smart Buildings as it relates to HVAC controls, fire/safety and electrical systems continues to increase rapidly and requires a thorough understanding of a variety of disciplines including mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering principles along with a strong background in operations and maintenance of HVAC equipment and utility billing. This position will report to the HVAC supervisor and work very closely with the HVAC shop or the maintenance shops.

Knowledge, skills and abilitiesConsiderable knowledge of operation, maintenance and repair of institutional HVAC equipment including chillers, boilers, air handlers, cooling towers along with digital/pneumatic controls and building automation systems.Considerable knowledge of commissioning/retro-commissioning procedures.Considerable knowledge of programming DDC controllers with DOS-based line programming and digital management software.Some knowledge of integration of Lon Network Controllers with Niagara java application control engine (JACE) requiring use of Java desktop environment software and graphical interface software.Some knowledge of BacNet, Lon and Siemens communications protocols and devices.Some knowledge of energy conservation principles.Some knowledge of computers and various operating systems and software.Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people.Proficient skill in the use of Microsoft Office software and database related software.Basic network configuration skills.Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot with proper test equipment such as digital meters, pressure gauges, temperature probes and flow meters to identify system faults and provide repair solutions.Demonstrated ability to review HVAC equipment for optimum energy strategies.Demonstrated ability to read and understand a variety of mechanical and electrical drawings to include control drawings, electronic schematics, electrical diagrams and construction drawings.

Level and type of experienceExtensive work experience in the mechanical / controls field or equivalent line of work. Considerable experience in the commercial HCAV controls and energy management systems including the operation, programming, calibration and repair of electronic building automation systems.
Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)Certification in building automation/controls. Master's Mechanical license. Extensive experience in creating and updating system level graphics for the campus BMS system. Extensive experience with at least five projects involving commissioning/retro-commissioning of buildings or other expertise with energy conservation techniques. Extensive understanding of Siemens Insight Programming in a large institutional setting. Working experience with some type of CAD program. Some experience working with a computerized maintenance management system to track work orders, labor, and materials used.
