Overview
Under the supervision of the Manager Facilities & Maintenance, the BAS Specialist will be responsible for Building Automation Systems (BAS) monitoring/alarm management, incident coordination, system diagnostics, programming, and system maintenance. Additional support for security and fire systems. The technician will coordinate with other groups within the Department and throughout the Laboratory to ensure long-term, safe, and efficient operation of the Siemens building automation system and end devices. Develops innovative solutions to enhance or enable controls of lab-wide systems.

Create programs to ensure peak operation of all electro-mechanical equipment.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Education: High School Education or equivalent and AAS or Technical training in HVAC, Electronics, or Automation or similar program.
Basic proficiency and understanding of Windows based software applications. Demonstrated proficiency with electronic mail, MS Office, and related desktop and handheld devices and applications required.
Proficiency with Web Based Applications including Maximo, Google Apps for Business

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
10 plus years of experience with the troubleshooting, service, programming, and repair of building automation systems.
Possess understanding and technical ability of DDC control theory and building operations, to perform investigations of complex HVAC system controls and functionality issues, evaluate alternate solutions and provide sound recommendations to supervisors, shop personnel and others.
Siemens Insight and Desigo experience in both service and installation of end devices, and front-end making scheduling and setpoint adjustment, override and release points, review point configuration, view, and export trend data.
Experience leading projects, repairs, refurbishment, and commissioning of automated control systems.
Reads and understands blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and layouts.
Ability to write complex programming for HVAC, and lighting systems.
Performs point-to-point system check outs and participates in new and renovated system startups.
Ensures proper software setup, programming, and communication with server(s).
Provides technical support, direction, and guidance to end users and other trades personnel where applicable.
Possess knowledge in the functionality and usage of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and motor frequency drives.
Working knowledge of fiber optic testing, repair, and troubleshooting.
Ability to be on-call, and work overtime, off-shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Maintain good communication between departments and other shop personnel. Maintain good customer service relationships.
General knowledge of the National Electric Code, Life Safety Code, OSHA and standard industry practices. Conform to industry standards concerning safety, lock-out/tag-out, inspections, and operations when dealing with electrical systems. Maintain a high consciousness of safety for all personnel and areas involved.
