iRobot's Software Engineering organization is expanding, and is looking for a Principle Software Engineer for our Build and Tools group. The ideal candidate can thrive in a fast paced, cross-function environment, and enjoys driving improvements across the software build and release process. Essential Functions/ Job Duties

The Principle Release Engineer is responsible for supporting the software build and release needs of Agile teams across the iRobot software organization. You will have your hands on multiple aspects of the build, test, and deployment systems, from designing the build / test / release pipelines for the development team to helping your fellow engineers resolve problems in the development environment.

  • Continuously improve our build processes and automation to increase reliability, predictability and manageability.

  • Create, improve, and maintain the build and release processes and tools like Jenkins and Git.

  • Collaborate with Development, QA, and IT, to build, design, implement, and maintain deployment automation from code check-in to production.

  • Recommend and implement automation wherever feasible.

  • Establish and implement standards for build artifact management.

  • Support and further integrate automated tests, quality metrics and conditional deployments into the software build process.

  • Support and maintain all operational activities related to continuous integration (CI) systems.

  • Contribute to an atmosphere of cross-functional teamwork.

  • Define, develop, implement, document and evolve continuous integration and delivery tooling and standards.


  • 5+ years of experience in Release Engineering or Software Development

  • Strong scripting or programming knowledge

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with proven experience designing and implementing solutions to complex problems

  • Experience in a fast-paced environment

Must Have

  • Strong knowledge of Linux system administration

  • Strong working knowledge of installing, customizing and managing Jenkins, including Jenkins jobs configuration and maintenance.

  • Experience with a cloud platform such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud

Nice to have

  • Working knowledge of Python and Makeflies

  • Working knowledge of Git/BitBucket

This person will lead and provide technical guidance on projects and work cross-functionally with program management, system hardware and test engineering, and our customers to develop embedded code, providing RFID solutions for laboratory medical equipment. Leadership skills, hardware knowledge and strong debug capabilities are essential. Projects range from small programs of less than one month to large multi-year programs. Key Responsibilities: * Contribute as lead RFID firmware developer on multiple simultaneous programs and projects * Actively participate as a member of a cross-functional team in order to appropriately plan and schedule programs * Effectively report status, concerns and make recommendations in team meetings * Lead embedded firmware and RFID/MAC layer firmware design and code reviews * Understand and implement OEM RFID features as per the customer requirements * Participate in customer conference calls and travel to customer as needed Required Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies: * Bachelor's degree minimum in electrical engineering * 5-8 years of experience as an embedded RF firmware programmer * Strong leadership skills in managing projects and providing technical guidance * Excellent C/C++ programming skills and experience with embedded applications * Thorough understanding of Wireless/RF protocols * Prior knowledge on MAC and physical layer protocols specific to RFID * Strong problem solving skills * Ability to multi-task * Ability to document techniques and algorithms for implementation by others * Software debugging skills, with working knowledge of hardware * Experience with microcontrollers (knowledge of ARM is a plus) * Work well in fast paced environment * Proven ability to interface with customers and lead technical solutions to complex user requirements * Object-oriented design and analysis * Additional Preferred Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies: * Background in working with RFID and sensors * Experience in communication protocols (Bluetooth, Ethernet, Serial, USB) * Direct knowledge or experience with RF communications, and/or RFID highly desired * Embedded platform design * Ability to use tools like oscilloscopes, spectrum, logic and protocol analyzers Physical Requirements: * Mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. * Ability to use vision to read computer screen and read printed materials GSI Group Bedford MA
