BUDGET ANALYST

The Financial Operations office provides leadership and support to the campus community around planning and allocation of campus resources. Financial Operations is committed to providing exceptional service to the campus community while maintaining sound financial decisions that support the University's strategic priorities and comply with appropriate regulations.

The Budget Analyst supports the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the organization's annual budget. This role performs varied administrative, technical and analytical duties in support of the Financial Operations office. This role requires analytical skills to perform research, assess financial data and prepare reports and support documentation for distribution. This position includes data entry, financial reporting, and collaboration with divisions across the university to ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines.

The incumbent must conduct themselves with the highest integrity and in a professional, positive, respectful, service-oriented manner at all times while serving in this position. Responsibilities involve coordination with and interactions with individuals at all levels within and outside the University, and will include routine handling of sensitive and confidential information.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists the Financial Operations office in the development and preparation of the annual budget by collecting and organizing financial data from various departments.

  • Inputs budgetary data into financial and HR software systems accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Supports completion of payment requests, journal entries, contract administration, and meeting scheduling as needed.

  • Tracks and monitors expenditures against the budget, identifying discrepancies.

  • Produces financial reports; develops and maintains ad hoc reports and metrics.

  • Maintains organized records of budgetary documents, including forecasts and reports. Updates the Financial Operations website as needed.

  • Maintains accurate budget documentation and ensures adherence to organizational policies and financial regulations.

  • Utilizes software to input, track, and analyze budget data; generate reports for management review.

  • Works with the Controller's office to review and monitor chart of accounts access requests and maintenance.

  • Works with department heads to provide support with budgetary processes and assist with budget-related inquiries.

  • Works with Grants office and Controller's office to monitor post award financial compliance, assisting with grants-related payments requests and journal entries where needed.

  • Assists Accounting with responding to purchasing card requests and monitoring adherence to purchasing card policies.

  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies and financial regulations.

  • Advises, consults and trains university community members on budget policies and procedures. Responds to budget inquiries from the university community as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An associate's degree in finance or accounting and a minimum three years of related financial, accounting, and planning experience.

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license or certification.

  • Proven ability to use spreadsheet and database software for financial work.

  • Proficient in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite with a strong proficiency in Excel.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Typical Work Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

  • Hybrid work schedule available.

Salary: $70,000 - $75,000, dependent on experience.
