The Budget Analyst assists the Director in preparing the budget and monitoring expenditures performing research and analysis to ensure accordance with the budget.


  • Assist with preparing and compiling the operating budget.

  • Enter and maintain budgets in the budgeting system.

  • Provides monthly analytical support to department managers

  • Accurately compile and prepares monthly financial reports.

  • Develops monthly and year-end financial projections and forecasts.

  • Assist with reviewing and analyzing financial accounts to identify patterns, trends and anomalies.

  • Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiencies.

  • Work effectively and collaboratively with others both internally and externally.

  • Effective communication with department heads in regards to all aspects of budget.

  • Assists Director with special projects.

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED

  • Must possess a BS in accounting, business administration or related field.

Must have 1 years of experience in an environment that utilizes financial systems

  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following:

  • Performance Manager/NetLearning

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.

  • Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

  • Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.

  • Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.

  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

  • Must have 1 years of experience in an environment that utilizes financial systems.

  • Must demonstrate familiarity with computer technology; more specifically, must be proficient in Excel and other Microsoft office programs.

  • Must have analytic and communication skills, have excellent telephone demeanor, and the ability to work in a demanding and challenging environment.

  • Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with clients, visitors, employers, and hospital personnel.

  • Supports the team effort through a willingness to work beyond normal working hours, and follows written and oral instructions.

  • Must be able to work independently with frequent interruptions and have the ability to prioritize work load for the most efficient performance.

VIEW JOBS 7/15/2022 12:00:00 AM 2022-10-13T00:00 <p>Job Req ID: 91919</p><p>Budget Analyst</p><p>The Oncology Department is seeking a Budget Analyst who will work under the supervision of the Financial Manager, coordinates and oversees budgeting activities related to JHU accounts including cost centers, departmental and sponsored budgets, revenues and gift accounts. This role assists in financial studies and analysis regarding projected changes in revenues and expenditures. Oversees revenue and expense budgets, including grants and contracts in post award period. Ensures compliance with University and/or agency regulations and restrictions. May train others in budget related policies and procedures.</p><p>Specific Duties &amp; Responsibilities:</p><ul><li><p>Analyzes complex financial data and extracts and defines relevant information; interprets data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial probability.</p></li><li><p>Coordinates and develops budgets for research grants and contracts, including revenues and gift accounts. Analyzes budget patterns, projects expenditures, and prepares approved budget. Once a budget is approved then enters it into the COEUS system for routing purposes.</p></li><li><p>Compiles working papers and approved budgets when an award has been funded. Monitors payroll for the specific faculty and their staff ensuring proper utilization of funds awarded. Performs cost transfers when needed and monitors health insurance on a monthly basis for the area. Financial reports are prepared for budgets, grants, and contracts on a routine basis.</p></li><li><p>Develops payment schedules to monitor receipt of payments from sponsor.</p></li><li><p>Reconciles service center invoices against study milestones.</p></li><li><p>Keeps abreast of laws and regulations that apply to a particular staff function or field of professional expertise to maintain up-to-date compliance.</p></li><li><p>Works towards revenue maximization by understanding and overseeing the revenue cycle</p></li><li><p>Sets up budget accounts once award(s) has been granted or contract(s) signed. Administers the funds ensuring that funds are expended according both to the sponsor and university guidelines.</p></li><li><p>Works closely with Program Manager and Research team to develop and maintain clinical trials process (Budget, Contract Negotiation, Track payments)</p></li><li><p>Responsible for routine billing of clinical trials milestones, adverse events, amendments etc.</p></li><li><p>Assists in the grants submittal process, tracking internal documents to ensure proposals include accurate budgets and protocol information.</p></li><li><p>Confers with appropriate internal Principal Investigator to ensure that required procedures are followed, and provides instruction and answers questions relating to budget procedures.
