Duties

This position is located under the Office of Management (OM), Financial Management Division, Budget Branch in Washington, District of Columbia.

The primary purpose of this position is to the Bureau's budget formulation and execution process. The incumbent assists the Branch Chief with his/her responsibility for formulating policies. plans, systems and procedures to manage and continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall Bureau financial management.

As a Budget Analyst, GS-0560-9, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Provides budgetary and staff assistance to the Branch Chief on issues which cross operational boundaries within the Branch or which are highly sensitive, unusual, complex. or one-of-a-kind matters beyond the normal budget processes of the Bureau.

  • Utilizes accounting reports, analyzes and prepares projections of funding though the end of the fiscal year and compares to estimates.

  • Participates in meetings and discussions with management officials and program managers pertaining to assigned areas and suggests potential items for discussion.

  • Gathers data necessary for tracking and evaluating assigned programs or activities and assists in suggesting new ways to collect or use the data gathered.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses.

MOBILITY PLAN: New employees hired pursuant to this vacancy announcement must sign a mobility agreement. Qualifications

This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.

To qualify for the GS-09, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-07. Specialized experience for the position includes:

  • Providing program oversight to budget support and analysis functions for the division; and

  • Assisting and participating in the compilation of budget requirements, presentations and execution; and

  • Tracking and monitoring functions, preparation and analysis of budget related materials.

OR

Master's OR Equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. OR J.D.

Combination of Education and Experience: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. This experience must have equipped you with the qualifications to perform the major duties of this position as described above. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience.
