If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team in the Budget and Finance Section of the Administrative Division that is responsible for providing budget and financial management support to the U.S. Attorney's Office in the District of Columbia.

Typical work assignments will include:

  • Assists with assigning appropriate accounting classification codes and object classification and entering the required information into an electronic accounting system.

  • Assists with reviewing bills against source documents prior to payment ensuring accuracy of goods or services, and for timeliness and consistency with DOJ procedures and federal requirements.

  • Assists with reviewing requests and forms for complete information and all authorized signatures, obligating funds, and creating files.

  • Assists with evaluating validity of internal district requests and determining adequacy of justification based upon program plans and accomplishments, and policy guidance.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

To be qualified for the GS-09 (position), you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal Service; or a master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related; or a combination of specialized experience and education.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience is defined as assists in reviewing funding requests, obligations, invoices, payments and reports for accuracy; assists in entering data in an electronic financial program, assigning classifications codes and object classification, and reconciling accounts; reconciling credit card statements; assists in determining expenditure justifications adequacy; and performing budget administration assignments such as entering data into a variety of financial forms, schedules, and reports.


Education: a master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D, if related (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law). Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.


Combining Education and Experience: a combination of specialized experience and education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
