Performs work in support of Bryan Texas Utility's Distribution and Engineering Departments, performing asset data collection, updating and maintaining the GIS, EA, and OMS databases, and coordinating of pole transfers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Helps maintain the accuracy of engineering analysis and outage management databases.

  • Coordinates the collection and entry of GPS data, field inventory, and equipment configuration and incorporates the data into the GIS.

  • Updates GIS maps to reflect location and configuration of existing infrastructure, including poles, transformers, pad mounted equipment, streetlights, etc.

  • Coordinates the transfer of third-party pole attachments.

  • Performs some field investigation and assessments associated with updating the engineering model

  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a current college student seeking a technical degree in engineering, geospatial technology, or a related field of study.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to:

  • Use GPS technology to record location of existing infrastructure and work outside for extended periods of time.

  • Operate computer systems and peripheral equipment to produce drawings and maps

  • Understand, comprehend, and perform tasks based on complex instructions.

  • Make mathematical calculations and engineering computations.

  • Use spreadsheet and word processing applications (Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook).

  • Read and understand prints and schematics.

  • Organize workload, establish priorities, work under pressure, and meet established deadlines.

  • Demonstrate satisfactory work performance and attendance.

  • Comply with all City and department policies and procedures.

  • Provide management with sound, positive advice, and information concerning the incumbent's area of responsibility.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and communicate effectively with the public and other required entities.

Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy.

  • Strong personal computer skills, with the ability to utilize AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and other job specific software.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements

Texas Class C driver's license with a good driving record as measured by the City's evaluation system.

Physical Demands

Physical demands include but are not limited to: sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, using hands and fingers to operate office equipment and machines, and occasionally lifting and/or moving objects up to and including 25 pounds.

Working Conditions

50% office environment/50% outdoor field environment. While in the field, there is exposure to inclement weather, temperature extremes, wet/humid conditions, noise, dust, pollen, fumes, odors, and/or other irritating airborne particles.

Equipment

Work shall be performed with tools, appliances and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.

Equipment may include but is not limited to: Multi-line telephone, large-scale copy machine, scanner, computer, printer, calculator, and vehicle.

Software used includes: ESRI - ArcGIS, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,, Outlook, and PowerPoint), and AutoCAD.
