Job Description:

The Biological Chemistry (BC) group is an early stage drug discovery team within Oncology research at NIBR, focused on understanding and exploiting the molecular mechanisms of novel cancer targets for the discovery, characterization and optimization of small molecule therapeutics. We are seeking a highly motivated, creative and collaborative scientist to join our team in a hands-on role to discover the next generation of innovative cancer treatments.

Responsibilities for the role include:

  • Functional and mechanistic characterization of enzymes, substrates, and multi-protein complexes.

  • Design, development, and troubleshooting of diverse biochemical and biophysical assays for use in the assessment of both mechanism and small molecule modulation of cancer targets, including hit identification, validation, and optimization.

  • Analysis, interpretation, documentation, and presentation of data to the BC group and multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Assessment of emerging technologies with an emphasis towards the implementation of new experimental techniques enabling drug discovery.

  • Contribution to group organization, productivity, and expertise through collaboration and idea exchange.

We are looking for a talented scientist passionate about working on cross disciplinary teams to develop, optimize and execute cell based assays to enable the discovery of new oncology drugs. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to design and execute sophisticated assays that inform drug discovery and/or basic biology. The candidate must demonstrate creative problem solving in low and high content modalities, and perform basic data analysis on small to medium scale datasets using standard analysis tools. The applicant must be independent in thought and results driven while possessing strong and positive communication and team skills. The position requires significant interaction with people of varying scientific backgrounds, approaches and skill sets. A passion for lab work, data analysis and reporting excellence and a curiosity to expand existing skill sets are a must. Creativity is highly valued.
