GENERAL DESCRIPTION: To serve as the educational leader, chief executive, and facilitator of the site, to be responsible for direction and quality in the instructional program, operation of the school site, participation in staff and student activities, community leadership, and member of the District Management Team.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee. The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Abides by and enforces responsibilities of the position held through familiarization with State law, Board Policies, the District Teacher's Handbook, local programs, the position description and other information which is distributed through official channels. 2. Establishes an effective academic monitoring system to provide feedback on the effectiveness of the school's curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices and their effect on student achievement (Monitoring/Evaluating). 3.

Builds and maintains a culture in which a common language is employed, ideas are shared, and staff members operate within the norms of cooperation. (Culture). 4. Operates from a well-articulated and visible set of ideals and beliefs, regarding schooling, teaching, and learning (Ideals/Beliefs). 5. Seeks out and keeps abreast of research and theory on effective practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment (Knowledge of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment). 6.

Actively helps teachers with issues regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment in their classrooms (Involvement in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment). 7. Establishes concrete goals relative to student achievement as well as curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices in the school, and keeps these prominent in the day-to-day life of the school (Focus). 8. Establishes procedures and routines that give staff and students a sense of order and predictability. (Order). 9.

Recognizes and celebrates the legitimate successes of individuals within the school as well as the school as a whole; also recognizes and acknowledges failures when appropriate (Affirmation). 10. Fosters knowledge of research and theory on best practices among the staff through reading and discussion (Intellectual Stimulation). 11. Establishes and fosters clear lines of communication to and from the staff as well as within the staff (Communication). 12.

Establishes and fosters procedures that ensure that staff members have input into key decisions and policies (Input). 13. Attends to and fosters personal relationships with the staff (Relationships). 14. Provides an optimistic view of what the school is doing and what the school can accomplish in the future (Optimizer). 15.

Invites and honors the expression of a variety of opinions regarding the running of the school and adapting one's leadership style to the demands of the current situation (Flexibility). 16. Ensures that the staff members have the necessary resources and support. Develops, implements, and/or organizes professional development to effectively execute the teaching and learning process (Resources). 17.

Expects and recognizes superior performance from the staff (Contingent Rewards). 18. Is keenly aware of the mechanisms and dynamics that define the day-to-day functioning of the school and uses that awareness to forecast potential problems (Situational Awareness). 19. Is an advocate of the school to all relevant constituents and ensures that the school complies with all important regulations and requirement (Outreach). 20.

Is highly visible to teachers, students, parents, and community through frequent visits to classrooms and community educational events. (Visibility). 21. Protects staff members from undue interruptions and controversies that might distract them from the teaching and learning process (Discipline). 22. Is willing to examine school practices and promotes the value of working at the edge of one's competence (Change Agent). 23.

Manages school administrative functions (e.g. facility maintenance, budget, staffing, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient operations within District guidelines. 24. Plans, coordinates and evaluates the program of pupil services, including guidance and counseling, in cooperation with the District. 25. Plans, supervises and directs the business operation of the school and any student body organization in accordance with District policies and procedures. 26.

Cooperatively plans, coordinates and reviews the work of resource staff assigned to assist teachers in the instructional program. 27. Plans and supervises attendance accounting. 28. Provides for the delegation of responsibilities to a staff member when absent from school. 29.

Orients new staff members to the school or program, District and community. 30. Works with school personnel and District administration to implement, assess and upgrade instructional programs. 31. Develops, implements and evaluates procedures with respect to appropriate pupil placement within the school or program. 32.

Acts as a resource person on an inter-school level and contributes to the efficient operation of the District through participation in meetings called by the Superintendent or his designated representative. 33. Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities. 34. Assists in determining the custodial and maintenance conditions and needs of the facilities as well as the caliber of work performed in these areas. 35.

Serves as the professional growth advisor for teachers in the process of renewing their professional clear credentials. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE OF: Planning, organization and direction of the student services of the district.

State, federal, and local regulations related to child welfare and attendance. Effective oral and written communication skills using tact, diplomacy, patience, and courtesy. Principles and practices of management.

Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of district students. ABILITY TO:

Initiate and evaluate new programs and strategies regarding student learning and involvement. Assess student needs and develop viable plans and alternatives. Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Meet schedules and timelines. Work independently with little direction.

Plan and organize work. Prepare comprehensive narratives and statistical reports. Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.

Maintain current knowledge of laws and trends related to assigned activities and programs, rules, regulations, requirements, and restrictions. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Work confidentially, responsibly, and in a collegial manner to achieve quality education for all students.

WORKING CONDITIONS Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office seeing to read and prepare documents and reports; bending, reaching to maintain files; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; walking to supervise campus activities; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally; lifting light to medium objects. Moderate to high stress level, including contact with dissatisfied individuals. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Office environment; constant interruptions; driving a vehicle to conduct work.

Temperature - normal climate. CONTACTS Daily contact with students, parents, teachers, and District staff. Frequent contact with community members and outside agency personnel.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATES/LICENSES Administrative Services credential. CPR/First Aid. Valid California Driver's License.

TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree, advanced degrees in School Administration are preferred. A minimum of three years of successful, full-time teaching experience; three years at the administrative level desirable. Aforementioned experience at the secondary level preferred.
