Job Summary:

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers, and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 700 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.

This paid Broadcast intern* will assist engineers with quality control checks of audio and video equipment in committee hearing rooms. This will include troubleshooting and maintenance of AV equipment. Other duties will include checking studio equipment for proper function before live recordings. This internship will include the running of cables, removing old equipment and transporting cases of AV gear between different buildings.

The intern will also work and communicate with committee staff to ensure that current needs for any upcoming hearings are being met. This would include any audio, video, or miscellaneous items are accounted for during any official committee event.

The Fall Internship will begin with orientation September 24th.

  • paid at an annual rate of $35,677 not to exceed 120 days

The CAO standard business hours are 8:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week internship that will require onsite attendance in Washington, D.C.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Supporting and maintaining several video conference rooms equipped with racked audio and video equipment driven by a digital control system.

  • Providing superior customer support to all users, including senior-level Government executives.

  • This person should be able to troubleshoot audiovisual equipment and work with audio systems, video systems, control systems along with computer hardware and software.

  • Sets up and operates projection systems, audio systems, microphones, and room control systems.

  • Able to assist presenters with PowerPoint software and computer interfaces to the AV systems.

  • The successful candidate will complete the internship with a broad experience in the area of video production relevant to new professionals entering the field.

  • Providing additional program support services and other tasks as needed

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • A student who has demonstrated fundamentals of audio and video production.

  • Knowledge of MS Word, Adobe Premiere (or similar editing software) and ability to work on PC.

  • Ability to maintain professional decorum in a team environment based on idea generation, creativity, and collaboration.

  • Excellent telephone etiquette, communication, and organizational skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Desire to learn and grow professionally grow.

  • General computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.

  • Desire to invest your passion and commitment to a vision you feel you can embrace and contribute to the growth of the company and its success.

  • A willingness and flexibility to do "whatever it takes" for "whoever needs it" foster the growth and success of the business.

  • Knowledge of video cameras, audio technology, and their interconnections

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Adobe premiere, Microsoft Office, automated work processing, and other digital information technology applications, particularly electronic publishing.

  • Ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts, and contribute to the development of innovative principles and ideas.
