Responsible for installation and repair of CATV services in the Shentel Cable systems. Services include basic and premium CATV services involving the installation of digital set top boxes.
Supports the installation of CATV based internet access and voice services. Supports some system troubleshooting and repairs. Will be included in Shentel on-call schedule and expected to work Saturdays periodically.
Daily contact with customer concerning service problems and installation of equipment as well as testboard regarding clearing troubles. Frequent contact with manufacturers for technical assistance. Working conditions include climbing, attics with fluctuation of temperatures, small crawl spaces, heights, driving approximately 50 to 100 miles a day and working diverse hours.
a. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
b. Experience Level: 2 years of basic CATV installation and repairs. Preferred experience with digital CATV systems, DOCSIS cable modem installation and troubleshooting.
c. Training and certifications:
Holds or has completed STCE/NCTI or cable company equivalent certifications for Broadband Technician 1 technical position or equivalent. Candidate must produce certifications.
d. Special Requirements:
Basic telecommunications concepts, CATV, electricity and electronics.
Basic PC skills utilizing laptop devices and basic software applications (MS Word, Excel, WebBrowser).
f. Licenses or Certifications: Valid Driver's license required, DCJS certification preferred.
g. Ability to read and comprehend written materials.
Ability to communicate in both face-to-face and non-face-face situations. Ability to lift 50 pounds and transport 200 feet. Ability to work aloft, as well as underground while using power tools.
