JOB TITLE: BREWING SUPERVISOR - OVERNIGHT SHIFT

Job Summary:The Brewing Supervisor Overnight Shift is a regular, full-time hourly, entry level managerial position with the Brewing/Cellar department. The Brewing Supervisor position is responsible for achieving Brewing/Cellar departmental goals as set forth by management and for maintaining strong daily communication with the Head Brewer. The incumbent will report directly to the Head Brewer.

As a condition of employment, this position will work a dedicated shift from 6pm - 6am on a rotating schedule that will include weekends and holidays.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Requires maintaining a safe and secure working environment within the Brewing department at all times.

  • Adhere to, promote and hold direct reports accountable to all company policies at all times.

  • Under the direction of the Head Brewer, coordinate unit operations including, but not limited to: Brewhouse, Cellaring and clarification, Packaging, Quality Assurance, Maintenance and Shipping & Logistics.

  • Ability to accurately write relevant departmental SOPs and demonstrates cognition of specific Brewing terminologies relevant to SOPs.

  • Actively participate in the development and ongoing training needs for both employees and departmental process improvement. Responsible for training new hires to SOPs without deviation.

  • Responsible for optimizing efficiency in cellar practices, procedures, and technical aspects of brewing operations.

  • Displays effective communication on a daily basis with all employees, management, clients and vendors.

  • Maintaining detailed and accurate daily and weekly operations reports and submit such to the Head Brewer by communicated deadlines.

  • Operate all department manual and computer automated equipment while maintaining both safety and quality standards. Operate forklifts and other operating equipment as trained and directed.

  • Under the direction of the Head Brewer, maintain inventory of raw materials, filter media, and all supplies related to CIP, fermentation, filtration, quality control and proper conditioning of all beer.

  • As needed, trouble shoot electrical and mechanical equipment within department and quickly implement solutions to departmental operational issues as they occur.

  • Adhere to, promote and hold direct reports accountable to all company policies at all times.

  • Direct performance evaluations of all supervised employees. In coordination with Human Resources, direct training and development opportunities for staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

2-year degree in Biology, Fermentation Science, Food Science or similar technical degree program plus a minimum of 3 years' work experience. (OR) similar work history with a minimum of 3-5 years' experience and attainment of a Brewing diploma from an accredited Brewing school.

The candidate should possess a strong understanding of all areas of Brewery production and of general business metrics of success. Must be self-motivated, have excellent written skills, verbal communication and strong leadership skills.

Applicants, without an accommodation, must have the ability to frequently reach, twist, stoop, bend, crouch, stand and walk for 12-hour shifts. Applicants may be required to work overtime as necessary. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. without an accommodation.

As a condition of employment, this position involves working rotating shifts, that includes and weekends, and applicants must be able to do so without an accommodation.

Applicants must be able to wear personal protective equipment and work in varying weather conditions that includes humidity and seasonal temperature changes.

Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and able to pass a comprehensive background check in line with Company policy.

Candidates must be proficient in MS Office software including Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:Previous brewery or food production managerial experience. Attainment of a Brewing diploma from an accredited Brewing school.

This includes monitoring fermentation, quality management and basic equipment & facility maintenance within the Brewing/Cellar areas. The incumbent will report directly to the Brewing Supervisor. As a condition of employment, this position is required to work a rotational swing shift that includes nights and weekends. Essential Job Functions: * Follow all safety procedures and adhere to all company policies and procedures, including the safe operation of equipment and help to maintain a safe, clean work environment that includes general housekeeping warehouse duties. * A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in a cross-functional, cross-departmental TEAM environment. Communicates all pertinent batch related information at shift changeover. * Ability to accurately follow SOPs and understanding of specific beer process terminologies. * Perform CIP, sanitation and sterilization techniques as per standard operating procedures. * Cleaning and sanitizing brite beer tanks, cleaning of fermenters and general cleaning of overall cellar area. * Setting, monitoring and adjusting temperature of the fermentation tanks to achieve optimal fermentation and conditioning of beer. Record batch performance and raw material quality & performance. * During the fermentation process, check gravities, identify irregularities, record data, dry hopping, cap and chill tanks. * Draining and monitoring yeast during fermentation and conditioning. * Provide cellar support to the Brewing team which includes, but is not limited to, malt milling, prepping tanks for transfer and centrifuging or filtering of beer. * Ensure carbonation for finished product is at established levels. * Provide general cellar maintenance & upkeep in a safe & secure manner and work with the maintenance team as necessary. * Using powered industrial trucks, perform unloading of material for Brewing which many include trucks, totes, drums, pallets, etc.. * Operate both manual and computer automated equipment while maintaining quality standards. * Comfortable working with chemicals of varying composition and maintaining adherence to safety standards at all times during routine cleaning of brewing equipment. * Performs other duties as assigned.
