This is a part-time Breastfeeding Peer Counselor position with Chesterfield Health District's Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program. The position provides breastfeeding promotion, education, services and support to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers who participate in the WIC Program in Chesterfield Health District.
Creates a breastfeeding-friendly environment while promoting breastfeeding to individuals and groups. Gives basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers. Counsels by telephone and in the WIC clinic.
The successful candidate must be willing to complete Loving Support Training. This is an hourly position with no benefits.
Must have successfully breastfed one or more infants for at least 6 months and have the desire to promote breastfeeding to others. Must be able to work a minimum of twenty five (25) hours per week.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively with a culturally diverse population. Must have reliable transportation with a valid driver's license.
HS diploma or equivalency preferred. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
Experience with the WIC program preferred.
Experience in health education or counseling preferred. IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) certification preferred.
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal criminal history background check and the Department of Social Services Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, U.S. HHS IG Exclusion List check, employment reference check, and E-Verify.
The selected candidate must complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interests as a condition of employment, if applicable (Va. Code 2.2-3114). Other financial, credit, driving, or other background checks prior to employment may be required for certain positions. A completed application, including all previous employment, any periods of unemployment, education and salary history must be submitted online for consideration.
All personnel of the Chesterfield Health District must have an evaluation of their immunization status within the first 10 days of employment. This is an hourly wage position with a maximum of 1500 hours per year and not eligible for state benefits or access to the grievance procedure.
