We are looking for a Brand Strategist to join our team!

Our rich and diversified portfolio of legacy and disruptor brands is seeking a strategic leader to carve out unique spaces in the overlap of culture, psychology, audience, and brand. The right person is innately curious, always driving to solve the bigger "why?" at hand. They're eager to define the opportunity space for our brands to make a meaningful connection to consumers by understanding how they think, what they value, what motivates them, what they need, and how they're influenced by culture, people and their own experiences. This person will work to recognize patterns, connect dots and ultimately help develop the strategic vision underpinning our marketing and creative communications.

The overarching scope of opportunity for this role is broad in the best possible way. You'll be responsible for work across our entire enterprise spanning lawn, garden, hydroponic, pet, design and self-care brands, and will think broadly in cultural themes and behavioral psychology. You'll tactically apply those key themes, learnings and insights to produce limit-pushing briefs and comms strategies to define the shape of our marketing campaigns.

What will you focus on, big picture?

  • As a member of our Research & Insights team, you'll use quantitative and qualitative research to derive insights that are sharp, specific, and meaningful.

  • You're a keen observer who can take stretchy macro concepts and themes and turn them into tangible and actionable "ways in" for our brands to learn, adapt, and message to consumers in a resonant way.

  • You'll help us build new brands from scratch, and define their positioning, personality, core audiences and key messaging.

  • You'll continue shaping the path of our well-known and well-loved brands to elevate brand relevance in culture and build lasting impact with our consumers, both current and brand new.

  • You'll help us dimensionalize audiences for the modern media landscape -- brands today can't and don't have one singular broad audience. If you have an opinion about how brands can keep building broad equity in mass media, while balancing specificity and personalization with growth audiences, we want to hear from you.

  • You'll lead brand positioning, naming, portfolio strategy, architecture, hierarchy exercises and messaging workshops that engage internal and external partners to think with a fresh perspective informed by insights, trends and consumer truth

  • You will be perennially curious about the 'why' behind people buying (or not buying) products, consumer psychology (fast & slow brain decision making) and behavioral economic theory.

  • You will work with various insight-hunting research tools such as ethnographies, online communities, performance marketing results, and other cutting edge digital tools to deduce insights and themes.

What will you do day to day?

  • Be a strategic 'thought partner' to our internal agency & brand teams, partnering on the identification of key growth initiatives and marketing strategy development.

  • Inform creative briefs with deep, human-truth based insights. Offer constructive, non-prescriptive feedback to ensure all creative work aligns with overarching brand strategies and business goals.

  • Work with internal brand and agency partners to define the complete Marcom Strategy (audience identification, insight/accepted consumer belief, single-minded proposition, RTB's).

  • Work with our digital performance marketing team to identify net-new insights based on social & search results. Use these digital insights to inform audience & messaging opportunities for

real-time testing.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of advertising, branding or marketing experience; agency experience a must.

  • College degree or substantial experience in a business-related field, including Psychology or Social Behavior.

  • Experience supporting brand strategy engagements, including helping to produce strategic brand assets (positioning, brand personality traits, brand architecture and more).

  • A passion for creativity, brands, culture and technology and an understanding of how people think and behave.

  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a can-do attitude.

  • Ability to lead multiple projects with minimal supervision.

  • Strong communication, presentation, and story-telling skills. Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and analysis in business writing.

  • High agency, and the ability to influence and drive change.
