Overview

The Brand Manager will lead a variety of projects in support of growing and maintaining the health of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Brand. The primary focus will be supporting the Brand Marketing Director in the evolution and implementation of a highly successful national brand campaign. The ideal candidate is passionate about building brands and can work nimbly across a complex set of stakeholders, projects and priorities. This will include optimizing creative strategy & planning, managing agencies, guiding creative teams to deliver outstanding results, collaborating on content creation, and acting as a conduit for sharing best practices.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform planning and implementation activities that support the BCBSA Advertising Collaborative strategy, including but not limited to guiding projects, managing budgets, developing effective creative briefs, and overseeing production.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the BCBSA Advertising Collaborative, with a focus on client management and relationships. This will require working closely with Brand Marketing Director to understand the evolving needs of different stakeholders and recommending solutions for meeting their needs.

  • Help manage the relationship with a national advertising agency, including communications, budget management, and prioritization.

  • Manage a variety of ad hoc projects, ranging from problem identification, design and direction of analytical work, integration of analyses, development of deliverables, effective cross-functional collaboration, and clear communications.

  • Ensure high quality delivery of 3-4 in person Ad Collaborative meetings per year.

Qualifications

Required Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising or related discipline

  • 5 years of work relevant experience with specific experience in marketing planning and implementation

  • Experience partnering with external agency partners and other vendors

  • Strong brand building skills

  • Effective at both one-on-one communications and presentation skills; writes and speaks clearly and concisely with a diverse range of audiences; communicates in an open, constructive and honest way with teammates, peers and all management levels.

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to gain alignment across multiple stakeholders

  • Demonstrated time management skills, including the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines

  • Strong project management skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly Microsoft Excel)

  • Ability to assess conflict and intervene to diffuse or resolve conflict that detracts from intended objectives.

  • Identifies barriers, problem solves and manages issue resolution including escalation as needed

Preferred Basic Qualifications:

  • Marketing and/or Digital Communications experience is essential, preferably in a B2C environment

  • Project and/or Budget Management

  • Experience working with agencies is a plus

  • Healthcare experience is a plus

  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research to drive marketing strategy development

  • Experience with building brands through effective use of social/digital marketing platforms

You will work with product development, creative, media and many other functions to define the ideal messages and message timing to maximize traffic, sales and brand awareness to a defined consumer target. All while helping define what Potbelly is to a nation eager for a better sandwich shop. The ideal candidate will be experienced in uncovering and develop consumer insights, monitoring and taking advantage of a market and consumer trends, and calendar and promotional planning. Must be comfortable working in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment that is rapidly evolving, and at analyzing data to succinctly summarize actionable insights. Focus: Drive Sales through Marketing Brand Planning * Help to define and guide overall brand strategy and strategic initiatives to drive behavior in consumer targets * Leverage customer insights, customer data, internal sales data, economic data and product development work to identify menu gaps and customer need states to develop menu and marketing strategies that drive sales and builds brand equity * Work with cross-functional menu team in management, development, testing and execution of new product innovation and product-related initiatives * Partner with Brand Director to monitor trends and continually assess and improve our product offerings versus customer expectations and the competition * Facilitate overall new product and marketing calendar process in collaboration with operations services, supply chain and finance to continually assess and optimize messages Initiate Creative Briefs * Develop insightful and actionable creative briefs for new message ideation; cascade to cross-functional team and manage timelines and action steps, working with the creative and insights teams * Utilize customer feedback to inform direction and drive insights that lead to creation of impactful marketing communications * Partner closely with integrated marketing and creative teams to develop the campaign process, development of executable timelines and identification of appropriate assets for test markets and national product launches Lead Go-To-Market Process to Ensure Excellent Execution * Manage Go-To-Market planning & development of cascade materials in collaboration with marketing, supply chain, finance, field teams and operations to ensure timely and high quality development and launch of programs * Ensure we provide the best experience to field for any project roll-out * Monitor performance of promotional windows, managing weekly reporting to Marketing Leadership * Partner with finance in analysis of both test market performance and national window performance, identifying key learnings, next steps and recommendations Essential Physical Functions * Must be able to spend 10 - 15% of time travelling, including market and shop visits * Must be able to tolerate higher levels of noise from music, customer and employee traffic * Must be able to tolerate potential allergens: peanut products, egg, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood and shellfish * Must be able to communicate with teams through telephone, e-mail and in-person communications Experience, Education and Behaviors Summary of Experience: * Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business or a related area is required or equivalent experience * 3+ years product or brand manager experience * Restaurant or hospitality industry experience preferred but not required Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced, rapidly evolving environment including management of timelines, budgets, priorities and resource plans (utilizing internal and external personnel) * Experience in using both qualitative and quantitative research to help inform decisions * Strong skills in data analysis, including statistical and competitive evaluation and synthesis * Exceptional organizational and time management skills * Strong writing and presentation skills * Ability to translate key learning and insights into actionable business strategies, message development ideation and marketing calendar planning and assess impact of programs and initiatives * Effective communication skills with ability to build relationships, influence & collaborate cross-functionally * Strong knowledge and discipline in the area of project management * Ability to read a situation, solve problems, react appropriately and get things done correctly and on time * Must be proficient in Microsoft Office -- Excel, Word, PowerPoint Potbelly Sandwich Shop Chicago IL
