The Cylinder Filler/Backup Driver is responsible for filling industrial, medical and specialty gas products into liquid gas cylinders in compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and meeting the standard operating procedures of Airgas. Responsible for meeting all safety standards in the loading and unloading of cylinder gases per Airgas procedures. Responsible perform backup duties as a Driver and Administrative when necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Safety and Regulatory Compliance
Demonstrates and aligns with Airgas Safety Pledge and 12 Live Saving Rules.
Exemplifies, promotes and develops safe work behaviors.
Ensures all applicable regulatory (OSHA, FDA, DOT, EPA) requirements are met and applicable training and recordkeeping is performed to meet departmental and location deadlines.
Maintains compliance with all Specialty, Medical and Food Gas Standard Operating Procedures, SMS and ISO requirements and any and all associated paperwork.
Performs pre and post trip vehicle inspections, documenting deficiencies and ensures all safety items are in good working order.
Maintains vehicle (both inside and outside) in compliance with DOT regulations and Airgas Safety requirements.
Essential Functions of the Branch Cylinder Filler:
Delivers CS2 behaviors to all internal/external customers; establishes and maintains good customer relations, by communicating in person with customers.
Listens to and resolves customer service inquires and complaints; escalates to manager when appropriate.
Operate safely maintain equipment for pumping or repackaging gases into cylinders.
Performs minor maintenance of equipment and inspection of cylinders prior to filling.
Use standard pre-fill and post-fill inspections, tests, and operating procedures before cylinders are released.
Regularly inspect and maintain pumping apparatus and associated pressure gauges and monitoring devices used in daily activities.
Fill cylinders or containers to proper capacity and accurately maintain cylinder filling records and ensures that all required procedures are followed in order to comply with local, state and federal regulations.
Complete daily fill sheets and cylinder filling records accurately and timely.
Complete and attach warning and other identification tags, labels and decals to cylinders.
Unload and load cylinders onto delivery trucks using cylinder carts and/or lift gate.
Conduct periodic checks of plant / warehouse for safe and efficient operation.
Ensure any accident or injury is promptly reported; comply with all company safety policies and procedures; attend monthly safety meetings.
Comply with shift work schedules and be able to work occasional overtime to meet operational deadlines.
Maintain a clean, safe and orderly plant / warehouse appearance
Essential Functions of the Backup Driver:
Drives up to a 20-ton truck loaded with compressed gas cylinders, liquid cylinders and hard-goods to deliver to customers on a scheduled route.
Maintains load manifests and all other vehicle documents, ensuring they are properly completed and balanced with truck counts and shipping documents before and after deliveries.
Loads/unloads truck and sets up cylinders for customer use.
Picks up empty cylinders from customer sites and returns empty cylinders to the plant for refilling.
Unloads empty cylinders at the branch/plant and stages in the appropriate area for refilling.
Records deliveries and pick-ups on a load manifest and obtains signatures from customers for receipt purposes.
Maintains vehicle appearance (both inside and outside) in a professional manner.
Maintains a neat, clean and professional personal appearance in compliance with Airgas standards.
Identify and monitor customers' needs and work with them to maintain proper hard-good and cylinder levels to minimize or eliminate emergency deliveries.
Ensures all required paperwork is accurately completed.
Maintain appropriate drivers' license and endorsements
May operate forklift and other equipment as required.
Assist with inventory and housekeeping as required.
When needed, will be responsible for performing backup duties within the branch such as creating orders in SAP, planning daily driver routes, generate shipments, and sales-related paperwork (shippers, invoices, cylinder audits, month end reports, etc.) in a timely manner.
May demonstrate use of equipment.
Other duties and projects as assigned.

Has never been disqualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle according to the provisions of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, 391.15 and 383.51 within the last seven years (i.e., suspension shall not have been active within the last 7-years.).
No driving while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance within the last seven (7) years.
No more than two (2) moving violations in the last 3-years or one (1)moving violation in a commercial motor vehicle in the last 3-years.
No reckless driving in a commercial motor vehicle.
No hit-and-run convictions.
Driver applicants that can meet all the qualifications required to drive a specific type of company vehicle and drove a commercial motor vehicle in the military can be given credit for that experience by providing a military issued document that confirms their experience.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Must have 12 months' experience with Straight Truck or Bulk Straight Truck, or Driving School Certificate
Class A or B CDL with HazMat endorsement with airbrakes
Industry and related product knowledge, as well as experience with properly handling compressed gases, preferred.
Customer service or sales experience, preferred
Basic knowledge in computer order entry system and/or Microsoft Office applications (Word and Outlook)
SAP knowledge and experience a plus.
Demonstrated ability to accurately enter data from various forms.
Experience with onboard computers a plus.
COMMUNICATION and/or CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write routine business reports and business correspondence in English.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and/or customers.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and safety data sheets using the English language.
Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
