Salary Range: $40,626 - $48,752/year

Essential Functions and Objectives:

Creates educational materials for students who are blind/visually impaired so that they are able to receive an appropriate education alongside their sighted peers.

  • Transcribes print materials into Braille for students who are Blind/Visually Impaired.

  • Transcribes math and science materials into Nemeth and science Braille codes.

  • Creates tactile/auditory versions of a variety of student educational materials which are presented visually.

  • Transcribes all national, state and district exams into proper Braille codes, as necessary.

  • Coordinates and works effectively with co-workers, site staff, and diverse student populations.

  • Works with students who are Visually Impaired inside and outside of their assigned classrooms.

  • Learns to use/understand student technology and assists in keeping data on student progress.

Knowledge, Experience Other Qualifications:

  • One (1) or more years related work experience.

  • Ability to use a variety of Braille translation software to transcribe print materials into Braille, including, but not limited to, Duxbury, Braille 2000, Scientific Notebook and Math Type.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Works collaboratively with others.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to create tactile learning materials and to use equipment necessary to create these learning materials.

  • Knowledge of Nemeth Braille Code.

  • Knowledge and use of various Braille Embossers.

  • Familiarity with science, music, and foreign language Braille codes.

  • Knowledge of EBAE and UEB Braille codes used with correct formatting for Literary Braille.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
