Since 2006, BPI's mission has been to educate and mobilize the parents and caregivers of African, African American and African American Multi-cultural children to ensure they achieve success.

The BPI Soulful Sips (SS) Barista is an extension of our BPI staff and will emulate the BPI value of beaming love and light to all people (with a special emphasis on serving Black children and families). The BPI SS Barista ensures proper security procedures are in place to protect employees, guests and company assets, manages shifts while upholding standards of product quality and cleanliness, investigates and resolves complaints concerning quality and service, and ensures positive guest service in all areas.

This key role at the Cafe focuses on creating a warm atmosphere while ensuring efficient cafe operations. Soulful Sips Cafe Manager will also be responsible for teaching others the correct way to prepare coffee and menu items, which will require an in-depth understanding of coffee and espresso drinks. Additional responsibilities include overseeing daily functions, managing staff, maintaining quality standards, and fostering positive community relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Engagement:

• Greet and engage customers with empathy, especially those from diverse backgrounds or facing challenges.

Team Leadership:

• Train, supervise, and schedule staff, ensuring a cohesive and motivated team. Set daily expectations and monitor adherence to standards.
• Open and close the cafe, ensuring all equipment and systems are functioning properly.
• Monitor inventory and maintain cleanliness in all areas, including the bar, lobby, and restrooms.
• Foster a positive team culture through regular check-ins and open communication.
• Schedule and lead team meetings to set expectations and celebrate achievements.

Operational & Quality Excellence:

• Oversee daily operations, including inventory management and supply ordering. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Review vendor invoices and manage timely payments with support from BPI's Finance Team as needed.
• Prepare and serve beverages and food items to high standards. Address customer inquiries and resolve complaints promptly.
• Review customer feedback and manage online reviews to enhance the cafe's reputation.
• Gather customer feedback and propose new menu items reflecting community preferences.

Financial Management:

• Handle cash, process payments, and maintain financial records. Conduct weekly bank runs and ensure accurate inventory tracking.
• Review vendor invoices and manage timely payments with support from BPI's Finance Team as needed.

Safety Protocols:

• Implement safety procedures to ensure a secure environment for employees and customers.

Qualifications:

Experience:

• Previous experience as a Barista or in a management role in a cafe or coffee shop required.

Skills:

• Basic math skills for cash handling and inventory.
• Strong communication skills to engage with a diverse customer base.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills; thrives under pressure.

Knowledge:

• Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, food safety regulations, and coffee preparation techniques.

Certifications:

• Food Handler's card (as required by local and state regulations).
