Definition: Under general supervision, supervises and manages Boys and Girls Club programs to meet the needs of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) youths. This involves management of one of the Community's Boys and Girls Club facilities including program and service delivery, outreach activities, Community relations, budget oversight, personnel and facilities management. Ensures that programs developed and operated are consistent with Community goals for youths, Boys and Girls Club philosophy and core service areas. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.

Tasks:

1.Mentoring and Supervision:Supervises employees that are employed with SRPMIC and the Boys and Girls Club.Conducts the orientation and training for new hires and establishes performance goals for staff.Meets with staff individually to review program planning responsibilities and upcoming month's scheduling.

  • Supervises the Lehi Boys and Girls Club facility including future expansions.

  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive training program for all new and regular staff utilizing Boys and Girls Club training sessions and online modules.

  • Ensures that SRPMIC and Boys and Girls Club policies and procedures are followed.

  • Evaluates and improves the effectiveness of the Boys and Girls Club service delivery utilizing industry benchmarks.

  • Helps implement best business practices for program support services.Develops and implements a support services framework and system that is tailored to accommodate the Community's needs.

  • Communicates program goals and objectives to parents, employees and the Youth Services Management Team.

  • Solicits feedback from parents and staff regarding program effectiveness.

  • Reports on disciplinary issues to supervisors and parents.

  • Works with program management and staff to continuously improve operational policies, practices, procedures and methodologies.

  • Mentors direct reports so they attain technical and customer service skills along with experience necessary to perform independently and achieve career goals.

  • Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages teamwork, interdependence and ethical behavior.

2.Strategic Program Planning:Participates with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale and Community Administration to develop and implement a strategic funding plan for the Community Clubs.

  • Recommends programs and activities for the annual budget in coordination with the Scottsdale Boys and Girls Clubs and Tribal Government staff.

3.Program Development:Researches, develops and presents a well-rounded program of activities, educational and social opportunities and experiences that incorporate the SRPMIC history, culture and language.

  • Develops programs and activities within the five core areas including but not limited to, the following:1) Character and Leadership, 2) Health and Life Skills, 3) The Arts, 4) Sports, Fitness and recreation, and 5) Education and Career Development.

  • Using forms of outcome measurements, reviews and evaluates overall programs, activities and schedules annually to ensure compliance with goals and objectives and to assess new needs.

  • Annually reviews the expansion of the current programs with focus on community and members needs.

  • Coordinates with the Boys and Girls Club and other Community programs so that children and youths are presented with a diverse, interesting and challenging program of activities and educational opportunities that will develop skills, abilities, awareness and self-esteem.

  • Develops and implements programs that are consistent with the Boys and Girls Club philosophy as well as Community goals and needs.

  • Evaluates and maintains a well-rounded program of drug and alcohol education that will meet the goals of the Community and the Boy and Girls Club.

4.Program Safety:Monitors the Community based clubs to ensure they operate in a safe and efficient manner while adhering to the Community plus Boys and Girls Club principles.

  • Performs regular tours and facilities inspections.

  • Provides staff training on child safety and emergency risk management.

  • Ensures youth and teens are transported safely in Tribal/Club vehicles.

  • Inspects the program areas daily.Ensures all program areas are clean, safe, well ventilated and well lit.

  • Ensures that emergency procedures are posted in all areas and quarterly emergency fire drills are conducted.

  • Evaluates and maintains a well-rounded program of drug and alcohol education that will meet the goals of the Community and the Boys and Girls Club.

5.Communication and Outreach:Consults with Community Administration and staff to ensure that positive communication and working relationships are encouraged, fostered and maintained both within the Community and with the Scottsdale organization, emphasizing the partnership alliance.

  • Serves as the spokesperson for the Lehi Branch Boys and Girls Clubs by providing information, interpreting policies and procedures and soliciting funding as necessary.

  • Provides outreach for potential sponsors and funding for programs and activities.Assists in the development and ongoing operation of the Advisory Committee and organizational fundraisers.

  • Maintains the partnership with the Scottsdale Boys and Girls Club in a sound manner.Plans for the eventual goal of Tribal operation in future years.

  • Attends weekly meetings run by the Scottsdale Boys and Girls Club Administration.

  • Ensures the Tribal and B&G Club Supervisors are informed of events, happenings and incidents and that written reports are submitted as required.

6.Budget and Administration: Compiles and maintains client data using the Vision Management Tracking System.

  • Ensures files are maintained as directed.

  • Provides information and prepares reports as needed.

  • Helps provide budget information and monitors weekly, monthly and annual expenditures to ensures the program budget is adhered to.

  • Attends meetings, training and conferences that will promote individual growth as well as provide Club visibility.

  • Attends Tribal Council, Community District, Advisory Committee and other Community meetings to report on program activities, progress and challenges.

7.Miscellaneous:Performs other job-related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance program and departmental operation.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of the culture, customs, traditions, history and government of the Salt River Pima- Maricopa Indian Community.

  • Knowledge of Boys and Girls Club principles, programming and training.

  • Knowledge of Boys and Girls Club's program basics and strategies for implementation.

  • Knowledge and practical application skills in Community based prevention and intervention programs related to drugs, alcohol, violence and gangs.

  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures including those associated with the confidential and sensitive information found in client records.

  • Knowledge of prevention program principles, concepts, methods and techniques.

  • Knowledge of human behavior and strategies to resolve problems and conflicts.

  • Skill assessing client needs and progress in programs.

  • Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with SRPMIC co-workers, children, youths, their families, multiple agencies, other service providers and the public.

  • Skill with basic counseling and crisis intervention.

  • Skill planning, scheduling and time management.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely program records, according to prescribed standards.

  • Ability to make independent decisions related to client care, program development and crisis intervention.

  • Ability to utilize office equipment and the personal computer and related software including, but not limited to, MS Office software, Vision Management Tracking System and Blackbaud software, copiers, fax machines TV's, DDR machine, game tables and sports equipment to fulfill job requirements.

  • Ability to drive various SRPMIC vehicles, particularly the 15 passenger van.

  • Ability to work non-standard work hours as directed by supervisor.

  • Ability to use basic kitchen, recreation and outdoor tools.

  • Ability to perform CPR and First Aid.

  • Ability to lift and carry 45 lbs

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Services, Social Sciences or a related field.

  • Experience: Five (5) years total experience working in a youth development related program.

  • Experience with Community based prevention or education programs required.

  • Three (3) years progressively responsible supervisory experience managing a Boys and Girls Club facility with a Native American Tribe required.

  • Experience with children and/or adolescents in educational or behavioral related areas required.

  • Completion of BGCA's Spillett University Advanced Management Leadership Level required.

  • Ability to learn the Vision Management Tracking System and Blackbaud software required.

  • Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered.

  • Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill

Special Requirements

Special Requirements:May be required to work beyond normal work hours including nights, weekends and holidays so must be available for evening and weekend assignments.

  • May be required to travel.

  • Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of this position, successful completion of an extensive background investigation may be required.

  • Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification within the first six (6) months of employment from the date of hire and maintain certification subsequently.

  • Must possessthe National Child Care Worker Certification or earn it within the first six (6) months of employment from the date of hire.

  • Participation in a departmental staff development program is required.

  • Must possess knowledge of behavior management techniques.
