Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains, Inc. (BGCNP), a non-profit organization led by a Board of Directors, began as a single club site in 2003. The organization has grown to five units and one Club extension in three South Dakota communities:

Brookings, Flandreau, and Yankton with over 3,500 youth members. BGCNP works to carry out their mission: to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens by offering quality programming. Programs are implemented to ensure all youth are in a prime position to be academically successful, practice healthy habits, and portray good leadership skills for a $25 annual membership.

The Boys & Girls Club of Brookings (BGCB) sites serves youth from age 3 through seniors in high school. The VISTA for BGCB will evaluate, develop, research, and implement various strategies including, but not limited to community partnerships, recruitment, impactful programs, and internal operations. To ensure these projects are a success, the VISTA will need the following skills/characteristics: positivity, self-starter, hardworking, integrity, honesty, passion for the mission, customer service skills and preferably able to talk to a group of people.

The VISTA will leave the Club knowing they contributed to the sustainability of a safe, positive place for youth development for years to come and impacting hundreds of youth. VISTA members will have a full day of training with our full-time staff every month and opportunities for other trainings throughout their service time. The experience of a VISTA at our Club is unique in that the VISTA gets the opportunity to work with and for youth of all ages and all different needs.
