This is a supervisory-level, part-time position in the box office that works autonomously with limited managerial supervision. We are looking for applicants who are welcoming, proactive, accountable, and comfortable interfacing with the public and supervising Box Office Ticket Representatives, both in a fast-paced environment and in quieter office settings.

Shift supervisors can expect to work a minimum of 6 hours per week and, on rare occasions, a maximum of 20 hours per week. Flexible schedule. Evening and weekend availability is required.

Pay is $21.00 per hour.

Duties:

  • Supervise part-time Ticket Representatives, typically 1-3 at a time, and give job-related feedback.

  • Be the Manager on Duty for event shifts. This includes managing all box office staff and operations during the box office's busiest time, responding to escalated patron concerns, and ensuring patrons make it to the door in time for curtain without direct managerial supervision.

  • Be a resource for ticket representative tasks such as selling tickets and packages, processing donations, distributing will call, reconciling shift sales, and processing multiple forms of payment (credit cards, cash, checks) in AudienceView ticketing software.

  • Perform the above-listed ticket representative tasks as needed. Answer phones and assist customers at the window.

  • Be a liaison between upper-level management, ticket representatives, and patrons.

  • Participate in the box office's internal equity, diversity, and inclusion learning and projects to contribute to a more equitable and anti-racist workplace and theater experience.

  • Lock and unlock box office and theater spaces for staff and the public.

  • Count, distribute & deposit cash at the start & end of shifts.

  • Process sales made by external vendors (e.g., Goldstar, ArtsBoston) into the ticketing system.

  • Process group sales and communicate with group organizers regarding payment and policies.

  • Collaborate with Guest Experience usher staff to assist patrons before and during events.

  • Pull business reports and fill out financial settlement spreadsheets at the end of event shifts.

Other Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with full-time staff, brainstorm and work on long-term projects to continuously improve our box office work culture and our patron experience.

  • Assist in training and mentoring incoming and existing Ticket Representatives.

  • Stay informed of upcoming performance offerings as well as box office policies and procedures in order to assist staff and patrons.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 1 year of box office or similar customer service experience is required.

  • Applicants should exhibit leadership, receptiveness to feedback, accountability, and initiative.

  • Experience communicating effectively between various roles.

  • Cash and credit handling skills.

  • Computer and typing skills and competency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace required, as well as ability and willingness to learn new software.

  • Interest in learning and willingness to engage in conversations about equity, diversity, and inclusion best practices, and initiative to apply those learnings to the box office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Management experience preferred but not required.

  • Interest in theater, film, live music, or other art forms.

  • Desire to collaborate in an inclusive team environment.

Typical office conditions.

  • Desks and chairs are higher than average due to positioning at Box Office windows.

  • Nearly all work is executed on a computer, using both keyboard and mouse entry, and involves speaking with customers in person and over the phone.

  • The box office, especially at the Majestic Theatre, can be a crowded space during event shifts, and we can accommodate scheduling at more spacious venues as needed.
