POSITION OBJECTIVES: Responsible for leading a team of technicians responsible for the building and testing of New Products, Continuous Improvement, Special projects
Responsible for providing the leadership direction, defining priorities and timely execution of assignments related to new product assemblies / prototype builds
Document and communicate with departmental supervisors, the engineering managers, project leaders, and project managers on prototype issues that may arise
Lead, support, and remove barriers of Prototype Technicians with new product assemblies and testing of products
Assist in the training and development of colleagues and production personnel to insure a smooth transition of a product from the prototype stage through production release
Support the development and building of necessary tools, and fixtures to support manufacturing assembly and FRP
Support scheduling and testing of prototype boats, documenting findings, routine maintenance schedules and providing recommendations from findings
Must have the ability to read blue prints, provide necessary redlines and insure BOM accuracies
Knowledge, skills and hands on ability in a wide variety of assembly related installations to include current and advancing technologies, mechanical systems, cabinetry, and electrical systems
Experience in rigging and installing outboard engines, programming, calibration and troubleshooting
Must interface well with other employees, departments throughout Boston Whaler, Brunswick organization, outside vendors, dealers, and retail customers
Self-starter, high energy individual who lead others and complete assignments effectively without supervision
Must be committed to quality standards acceptable by Boston Whaler and customer base
Insure departmental 6S standards are followed, maintained clean, orderly, and safe daily
Support communication of and ensure company policies and procedures are understood and followed
Must be willing to work overtime as required to assure timely completion of critical projects
Must be willing to travel as necessary
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Proven leadership experience of at least 2 years
5-10 years Marine industry knowledge and boat building experience required
Experience troubleshooting and repairing Marine products, assemblies
Experience with PC based software (word, excel, data acquisition, OBMS)
Demonstrate problem solving and decision-making abilities
Boating and mechanical background to properly execute duties
Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
AS Degree / college level course work preferred
Advanced knowledge of manufacturing methods and procedures
Additional technical training in Mechanical / Electrical fields preferred
Fiberglass evaluation and repair direction abilities to industry and Boston Whaler standards preferred
NMMA, ABYC compliance certification training, Technical / Systems certifications, & training preferred
US Coast Guard safe boating course
Boat handling experience preferred
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
