Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age to be considered for employment. Outstanding communication and customer service skills are required.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to multi-task and feel comfortable utilizing computers. Candidates must be flexible with scheduling work days and hours.

Salary rate effective 6/01/2018. Hours of Work: These positions require applicants to work beyond regularly scheduled work hours on short notice to assist with the preparation of meals for a 24 hour/7 day secure detention facility; this may require work beyond 8 hours in a day and/or 40 hours in a work week including evenings, days off and holidays. Testing Information: All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be required to pass an Attitudinal Test to be eligible for employment consideration. Summary of Duties:These positions are responsible for transporting meals and/or food items between Home Maluhia in Honolulu and Hale Ho'omalu Juvenile Detention Facility in Kapolei on a daily basis. * This requires reporting to Home Maluhia in Honolulu to obtain the State van, and making a minimum of two (2) round trips between Honolulu and Kapolei before returning the van to Home Maluhia at the end of the shift. Also, these positions are responsible for assisting with the preparation, cooking, and serving of various foods and desserts and keeping the Kapolei kitchen clean during any assigned shift; and performing other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualification Requirements:Experience and Training: None. Lifting/Carrying: Applicants must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 70 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation. Driver's License: A valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle is required. Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement (28 CFR 115.117 and 115.317): These positions have contact with detainees in a juvenile facility or lockup. In accordance with the Federal PREA Law, the State of Hawai'i shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with residents/detainees in a juvenile facility or lockup who: a. Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution; b. Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; c. Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in b above; or d. Has been the subject of a substantiated allegation of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
