Busy Novato tax and accounting firm is offering an attractive opportunity for the right person.
This is a permanent position in an environment that is friendly, challenging, and rewarding. We offer tax, accounting, and financial services to individuals and businesses, and remain busy throughout the year.
You will be managing the accounts of several of our clients as a full service bookkeeper - this is a new division for our firm, so you're coming in at ground level and opportunity is abundant.
Experience with QuickBooks and some bookkeeping experience is preferred
Must be familiar with QuickBooks, all versions - QBO experience is helpful
Perform bookkeeping work as needed, including occasionally traveling offsite to clients' offices
Comfortable with learning various industry-specific software

Learn more at: POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Controller is a full time position in the Finance Department of a not-for-profit Research Institute located in the North Bay, reporting directly to the Controller. The ideal candidate is a CPA with proven knowledge of not-for-profit GAAP, federal grants management and compliance, and prior supervisory responsibilities. RESPONSIBILITIES * Assists with management, oversight and review of all accounting functions including, but not limited to, reporting, general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and purchasing. * Assists with ensuring effective financial controls and compliance with all technical and regulatory accounting standards related to non-profit and research organizations including, but not limited to, Office of Management and Budget Uniform Guidance and National Institutes of Health Grants Policy Statement. * Prepares quarterly financial statements and/or related schedules. * Coordinates and oversees preparation of annual financial statements, compliance and retirement plan audits. * Provides back-up expertise for payroll function at both the management and processing level. * Assures accurate and timely journal entries and reconciliations for period end reporting. * Prepares and reviews fixed asset ledgers and ensures all items are properly capitalized and depreciated. * Assists with cash flow and budget to actual reporting. * Assists with the development and validation of key departmental reports. * Supports special projects as required, including, but not limited to, development of accounting best practices, policies, procedural manuals, departmental forms, intranet Q&A information and automation of manual workflow. * Mentors and provides high-level technical leadership to the accounting staff and "go to" troubleshooting expertise in not-for-profit accounting and GAAP. * Supports and backs-up all functional areas of the Finance department as necessary IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree or equivalent, CPA preferred, with proven knowledge of not for profit GAAP * A minimum 6 years progressive not-for-profit accounting experience with management responsibility * Experience with not-for-profit GAAP, federal grants management and compliance issues and the ability to accurately interpret and apply rulings and regulations from oversight agencies * Proficiency in utilizing MS Office and solid working knowledge of accounting and payroll software systems with advanced analytical and reporting skills * A high level of professionalism and integrity with a demonstrated ability to work productively with, and gain confidence of, all levels of the organization * Versatile and flexible with a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm * The ability to focus and bring closure to activities, tasks, and projects * Commitment to excellence and high standards TO APPLY Please complete the online application, upload your CV and provide a Cover Letter summarizing why you are a good match for this position.
