Position Summary:
The bookkeeper position records financial transactions and creates financial reports from that information. The creation of financial transactions includes posting information to accounting journals or accounting software from such source documents as invoices to customers, cash receipts, and supplier invoices. The bookkeeper also reconciles accounts to ensure their accuracy.

Working Days: Monday through Friday (Saturday may be added as work level dictates)

Working Hours: 8:30AM to 5:30PM (Hours extended when work load is increased)

Full or Part Time: Preferred Full Time. Minimum 30 hours a week if part time.

Principal Duties

Responsibilities:

Receive, organize, and input banking and credit card information into client accounting files

Ability to enter adjusting journal entries and understand financial results

Ability to read and understand various banking statements, credit card payment processing documents, loan statements, payroll statements and other financial reporting documents

Ability to properly code transactions in accounting software while understanding potential tax implications of each

Classify and reconcile monthly or quarterly financial activity with third party documents (i.e. bank statements and credit card bills)

Create amortization tables in Excel and/or T-Value software for loans or other accruals and record monthly adjusting entries into accounting software

Communicate and follow up with clients regarding transactions

Communicate and follow up with Renaissance supervisors or tax preparers

Ability to file Florida State sales tax reports using the online filing system

Ability to input payroll information into ADP payroll website for various clients.

Ability to compile PDF documents of financial statements and supporting documents into client deliverables in a timely manner

Analyze and provide financial summaries of client information

Monitor and assist clients with accounting entries and coding

Perform other duties as assigned



Qualifications:

Good knowledge of modern accounting theory, principles and practices; knowledge of accounting terminology; knowledge of financial record keeping and reporting and budget preparation.

Ability to analyze financial transactions and make original or adjusting entries; ability to read and comprehend financial transactions; ability to trace transactions through financial records.

Good skills in the applications of the general principles and practices of modern accounting and auditing; good skills in reviewing and analyzing accounting transactions.

Communicates effectively with others, including giving and receiving feedback on the quality of services.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Excellent oral and written communication and presentational skills.

Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with administration, staff, consultants, regulators and funders in a team-oriented environment.

Capacity to assume responsibility for own professional development.

Detail oriented, logical, and methodological approach to problem solving.

Flexible, with the ability to work in a highly demanding, stressful environment.

Proficiency using Microsoft Office and Excel.

Proficient in use of office technology such as desktop computers, VOIP phone systems, email, cell phones, etc.

Proficiency with 10-Key and typing

Education and/or Experience:

Associates of Arts Degree in Business Administration or Accounting (Bachelors Degree in Accounting preferred)

At least 4 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience in a QuickBooks environment

Certain activities involved in this position may be photographed and/or video and audio recorded for quality control and/or training purposes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned): Responsible for overall accuracy of all account receivables including: * Posting of payments received from all applicants, current tenants and non-current tenants * Processing and reconciling daily credit card, debit card and ACH transactions * Preparing and processing daily cash deposits * Posting of all charges to accounts receivable accounts * Bill back utilities (where applicable) * Process significant number of SODAs and move-out charges during the property's designated move-out for the current lease * Researching and processing charge backs and returned checks. * Assessing late fees in accordance to the lease terms Perform collections tasks on accounts to minimize delinquency including: * Posting of payments received from all applicants, current tenants and non-current tenants * Processing and reconciling daily credit card, debit card and ACH transactions * Preparing and processing daily cash deposits * Posting of all charges to accounts receivable accounts * Bill back utilities (where applicable) * Process significant number of SODAs and move-out charges during the property's designated move-out for the current lease * Researching and processing charge backs and returned checks. * Assessing late fees in accordance to the lease terms Perform collections tasks on accounts to minimize delinquency including: * Post rent reminders within the office, around the community and online sources (where applicable). * Create and deliver delinquent rent notices to residents. * Make and answer accounts receivable phone inquiries and follow up * Comply with and enforce local and state eviction laws * Prepare and deliver accounts to 3rd party collection agencies Maintain accurate accounts receivable in compliance with all company accounting policies, rules and regulations through: * Reconciliation and balancing of all accounts receivable * Completing end of month closing procedures (Bookkeeper is not responsible for Journal Entries) * Conducting financial accounting audits in conjunction with regular lease audits * Ensure appropriate revenue and expenses are maintained * Attend monthly financial operations meetings to communicate status of account receivable activity * Maintain an understanding of company lease policies and GAAP * Work closely with leasing team to ensure accuracy of rent roll * The core of American Campus culture involves everyone being fully invested in everything that we do down to picking up the smallest piece of trash.
