JOB DESCRIPTION:
Summary
The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) teaches others to carry out ethical and effective behavior analytic interventions based on published research. Responsibilities include designing and delivering instruction in behavior analysis, developing protocols and standards for the delivery of behavior analytic services and providing consultation to administrators, teachers, ancillary and other staff. The BCBA assists with providing professional leadership to ensure Positive Behavior Supports are implemented according to district priorities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential Functions: Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
Develops framework for behavior analytic services within APS
Consults with APS staff implementing behavior analytic services
Creates and delivers trainings for the purpose of professional development and/or parent training using the principles of behavior analysis to teach learners
Provides expert testimony at formal due process hearings
Participates in the development and implementation of programs, policies and practices relative to the management of student challenging behavior(s)
Researches, develops and participates in the selection of district instructional materials as needed
Works with district and special education staff in developing data collection systems and implementation of those systems district wide
Participates in district mediations
Serves as a consultant in identified cases as needed
Develops protocols and standards for the delivery of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services
Identifies appropriate assessments and curricula related to skill development and/or reduction in challenging behaviors of students
Prepares assessments and professional reports that outline findings and describes behavior change protocols
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
Preferences:
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Experience educating, mentoring or coaching adults.
Knowledge of protective and risk factors and previous training in specific behavioral and trauma informed strategies.
Experience with both general and special education populations.
Experience with linguistically and culturally diverse communities.
Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.
Sensitivity and knowledge of cultural effects on behavioral norms.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Job Requirements
A master's degree in behavior analysis, psychology or a closely-related field
Certification by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board as a BCBA
Previous experience working with large districts with diverse populations
1-3 years working with individuals with disabilities who exhibit challenging behaviors
Experience assessing and addressing challenging behavior(s) in the home, school and community
Experience assessing and addressing challenging behavior(s) in young children, school-age children and adults
