This work supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. This position is high visibility and requires a system engineer with relevant technical and demonstrated ability as it relates to the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) weapon system. The Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) Multi-Discipline Systems Engineer will support the Technical Direction Authority (TDA) within the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) MDA/GM, which is comprised of multiple FFRDCs and UARCs working together to solve high priority technical challenges in support of mission critical national defense objectives. The Technical Direction Agent (TDA) provides accountable, independent, objective analysis and recommendations to sustain and improve the GMD system's capability to defend against defined threats. The engineer will participate in the development of various data driven products that include: trade studies, architectural analysis, strategy assessments, design reviews, digital engineering and MBSE, CONOPS analysis, machine learning, technology transition planning and recommendations, BMDS test and analysis, M&S verification, program assessments, source selection, and verification evidence gathering, assessments, and recommendations. Systems Engineer will become knowledgeable on the MDA Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system of systems to include the Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) development effort.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Systems Engineering or other relevant technical degree and 5-10 years of related experience.

  • Experience working with the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) System or other military BMDS Command and Control Systems.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to work independently when required and integrate seamlessly into technical teams.

  • Ability to manage task work and supporting personnel enduring technical rigor is applied and task provides the expected value to the sponsor.

Required Qualifications:

  • Possess working knowledge agile systems development, MatLab, and Python.

  • Ability to work and lead by example in a fast-paced operational environment supporting senior military and civilian leaders where priorities of effort may shift frequently.

  • Relevant experience in conducting systems analysis, trade studies, and requirements development for software systems.

  • Candidate must have an active Secret clearance.

  • Provide technical guidance regarding assessment requirements, system-level testing, and modeling and simulation capability required to support assessment requirements.

  • Work closely across sponsor directorates leveraging knowledge and resources, ensuring consistency of effort, and fostering teamwork among the sponsor, Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) staff, Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), Other Government Agencies (OGAs) and Prime Contractor(s).

  • Execute technical efforts in a dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • BS in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or other relevant technical field with at least 8 years of related experience.
