We are seeking a Full time Blood Bank Supervisor to join our team!
Position Overview
The Blood Bank Supervisor plans and coordinates the overall operation, training, monitoring quality controls, maintenance and regulatory compliance of assigned section or area of the laboratory. The Blood Bank Supervisor performs laboratory procedures across the major areas of the laboratory including blood collection with advanced knowledge and proficiency. This position is also responsible for the coordination of the Proficiency Testing and assists with competency assessment of employees working in the area of responsibility.
Responsibilities
Accurately performs complex and manual laboratory procedures across the major areas of the laboratory, including blood collection, and recognizes deviation from expected results, analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles
Develops and maintains department policies and procedures, objectives, QA program, proficiency testing program infection control and safety policies, PI program and monitors compliance
Monitors quality controls and maintenance procedures for accuracy, precision and troubleshoots any issues in timely manner
Directs, supervises or coordinates technical functions and activities in the department. Ensures that current regulatory criteria are met
Maintains professional knowledge and expertise in the department section and may act as a resource for others in these areas, including laboratory staff, physicians, nurses, etc. Serves on committees within and outside of the Laboratory Department to disseminate information, improve quality of services and to reduce costs
Oversees and participates in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures in the laboratory in terms of personnel, equipment, space method comparison, cost analysis and establishment of reference intervals (normal ranges)
Incorporates principles of educational methodology in the instruction of new employees and students and in the laboratory's in-service/ continuing education program. Assesses competency of new employees and completes the training documentation of new employees. Gives direction and guidance to support personnel and assists them with troubleshooting. Participates in hospital wide continuing education classes as they relate to the department
Ability to independently solve problem in all aspects of the department including but not limited to technical issues and occurrences as well as employee related issues and occurrences
Aids the Laboratory Director in assuring the laboratory meets all regulatory requirements in their area of responsibility (AABB, TJC, CLIA, etc.)
Any other job related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, or related field
Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or equivalent
Minimum of ten (10) years of blood bank experience in an acute care hospital laboratory required
Experience in a team Lead, supervisor or manager role preferred
