Job Description

Under general direction of the Auxiliary Services Director, this position manages the day-to-day operations of the campus espresso and athletic concession stands. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the campus espresso and athletic concession stands including but not limited to staff management, ensuring excellent customer service, inventory management and ordering, and health and safety compliance.

This position will work collaboratively with the Food Services Director and Auxiliary Services Director to ensure successful coverage of campus auxiliaries. This position requires evening and weekend work ensuring adequate coverage during athletic events, college caterings and campus events.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages staff, assigns and schedules work, provides food safety training and instructs on food preparation and kitchen procedures.

  • Inspects campus espresso and athletic concession stands food preparation areas, ensuring proper food handling, sanitation, elimination of safety hazards and proper use and care of equipment.

  • Maintain inventory of food and equipment, maintenance records and reports.

  • Ensures campus espresso and athletic concession stands are clean, sanitized and free of debris, ready for the next business day.

  • Foster and establish a positive, collaborative and efficient work environment within division, college and community.

  • Provide and ensure a positive customer experience; respond to internal/external inquiries in a timely manner.

  • Plan daily, weekly, monthly sales and specials schedule; ensure successful marketing of campus espresso and athletic concession stand offerings; promote business to internal and external community.

  • With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, train new employees, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action.

  • Ensure adequate security and cash control functions of campus espresso and athletic concession stands.

  • Work collaboratively with the Food Service Director on ordering and preparing food, ensuring adequate coverage of catered events, and cross training with the food services department.

  • Work collaboratively with the Auxiliary Services Director on creating an annual budget and staffing levels, menu innovation and pricing, tracking sales and expenditures, and ensuring a successful self-operation of campus espresso and athletic concession stands.

  • Work collaboratively on event coverage, catered beverage needs, and serving as an event liaison.

Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of customer service experience in food service

  • 2 or more years of food service supervisory/manager experience

  • ServSafe Manager Certification REQUIRED (must obtain within 90 days of hire)

  • Washington State Food Handlers card REQUIRED (must obtain within 30 days of hire)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Business, Hospitality or other relevant degree closely aligned with this position

  • Experience in menu planning/pricing

  • Experience with food and beverage ordering

  • Experience with catered/large events

  • Experience with concessions

Conditions of Employment

This is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time administrative exempt position. The salary is $52,000 - $62,000 (DOQ/DOE) annually depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees. The position may participate in the TIAA/CREF retirement system.
