We are currently searching for a Project/Rick Manager to join out team located in Frederick, MD. The successful Project/Risk Manager candidate becomes an important champion for this extraordinary company culture and will have the opportunity to make substantial contributions toward the development of vaccines and therapeutics that will protect civilians and dedicated Armed Forces men and women.

This position will be attractive to Project Managers (PMs) with broad experience in all facets of scientific project management and control. The successful candidate will lead DVC project teams in delivering biopharma products and services to our clients. Assessing and managing complex risks and mitigations will be the principal responsibility of the role. The PM work closely with talented and highly skilled Technical Development Managers and subject matter experts that form the scientific backbone of our project teams. The PM will integrate the efforts of other functional experts (Finance, Subcontracts, Earned Value, etc.), ensuring that the entire team pulls together to reach its goals and manage risks. Finally, the PM plays a very public role in leading important client and stakeholder meetings. This very diverse, busy, and central role requires strong management ability, well-developed interpersonal skills, and the ability to solve complex problems in a teaming environment. Developing client trust and positioning DVC for growth are critical measures of success.

Job Description

The responsibilities of DVC project managers flex as the project-load and PMO needs flex. Core responsibilities may include:

  • Owns and implements the DVC ISO 31000:2009 compliant risk management system

  • Works closely with functional experts and managers across the company to identify, assess, document, treat, and communicate risks

  • Leads routine client risk meetings that develop risks, seek authorization to propose risk treatments (new scope), and build confidence in DVC's foresight and proactive posture

  • Leads very cohesive and high-functioning project teams. In fulfilling this role, the PM uses all of the tools in the project management toolboxincluding earned value managementgiving special attention to all of the soft skills that support effective communication, team cohesion and goodwill, and client understanding and satisfaction

  • Manages subcontractors by working closely with scientific Control Account Managers (CAMs) and subcontracts administrators ensuring strong relationships and communications that yield maximum subcontractor performance

  • Leads proposal development efforts that support the timely execution of new scope, essential to maintaining project momentum

  • Switches seamlessly between the routine (variance analysis, status reports) and the complex (subcontractor negotiations, consensus building, relationship management, Integrated Master Schedule analysis and development)

  • Leads or otherwise manages all interactions with the client and other stakeholders, demonstrating project control and creating goodwill and client confidence

  • Leads the planning, preparation, execution, and documenting of critical project meetings that produce unanimity in planned actions

  • Manages project requirements, ensuring that all deliverables are met with attention to quality and effective communications with the client and other stakeholders

  • Leads all business aspects of projects, including corporate profitability, which may hinge significantly on client satisfaction

  • Manages the development and maintenance of project Integrated Master Schedules, Integrated Master Plans, monthly Contract Performance Reports, and Baseline Change Requests

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • B.S./B.A. in the life sciences or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years combined technical and project management experience

Other Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong analytical skills with a working knowledge of the biological sciences and pharmaceutical product development (from concept to launch)

  • Demonstrated successful experience leading complex, cross-functional project teams; a leader who builds consensus for maximum performance and productivity

  • Computer skills, including MS Office and MS Project

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and exceptionally strong interpersonal skills

  • Highly organized and able to lead multiple efforts in a fast-paced environment

  • Professional, dedicated, detail-oriented, andabove allable to work side by side with talented scientific, business, and project experts
