The Cytology Diagnostics Research and Development Team is looking for a Biosystems Technical Lead to drive scientific programs and integrate cross-functional scientific teams in the design and development of innovative diagnostic products. This is a high-visibility, fast-paced position. The ability to communicate, drive technical and business decisions, and influence diverse groups across all levels of the organization is a must. In addition to technical and business acumen, an ideal candidate will possess substantial situational agility and emotional intelligence.

The successful candidate will have a background in the integration of engineering and life science and thrive in complex and rapidly changing work environment. This position will be part of a team that works with business experts, manufacturing people, scientists, software and hardware engineers to maintain existing hardware and design new diagnostic systems. Understanding limits of system architectures and thinking creatively to solve problems are critical for the successful candidate.

What will you do?

  • You will perform development work to move diagnostic tests from concept to launch following the new product development process.

  • You will create and communicate vision of systems being developed.

  • You will work cross-functionally with scientific as well as engineering personnel and others to consider full spectrum of relevant aspects of product development and design.

  • You will understand various talent and resources available and allocate requirements within defined processes/workstreams to ensure they are accounted for and included in overall systems and final products.

  • You will characterize systems by breaking them down into their component parts, mapping out how each function will work within the overall system to make sure products will operate as intended.

  • You will build in traceability through allocation so each project segment can be verified and validated.

  • You will partner with medical affairs, marketing, operations, quality, regulatory, legal, business development and others and present ideas and data to other parts of the organization for feedback and to communicate project progress.

  • You will adhere to good design, development, documentation and verification of systems design practices.

  • You will support engineering functional excellence objectives.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor's degree in biosystems engineering, biomedical engineering, or related fields with 7-10 years of industrial experience or MS with 5-7 years of industrial experience.

  • Exhibit in-depth understanding of biological and chemical principles and concepts as they relate to commercial products.

  • Ability to coordinate interests from full range of scientific and engineering disciplines required to build electro-mechanical instruments to achieve solutions to business and technical problems, including electrical, optical, mechanical, biological, chemical, software design and others.

  • Ability to analytically and creatively think in addition to complex problem-solving.

  • Ability to work with and on cross-functional development teams.

  • Ability to synthesize requirements from variety of sources, create allocated work plans and report on status and commitments.

  • Proficient in analyzing test results, assessing probable failure modes and developing and executing appropriate corrective action.

  • Show excellent project planning and leadership skills to manage large, complex projects.

  • Demonstrate an ability to gather and manage necessary resources and influence without authority.

  • Utilize strong technical decision-making and risk assessment skills.

  • Exceptional verbal, technical writing and interpersonal communication skills. Good presentation skills.

  • Flexibility with requirements and system changes.
