The Biostatistician will act as lead statistician on projects of moderate to large size and complexity; will support lead statistician on very large, complex studies. May have staff management and/or project management responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Will lead a project team. This involves conducting team meetings, maintaining project timelines, assessing resources needed, providing resources, and preparing the budget. Ensure that Standard Operating Procedures are being followed and that appropriate project documentation is ongoing

  • Will coordinate with programmers and data management personnel as to database maintenance, updating and documentation. Provide guidance for database structures for analysis

  • Will create or provide specifications for analysis databases based on Data Management database

  • Will provide sample size calculations and review protocols for completeness, appropriateness of clinical design, and sound statistical analysis

  • Will provide randomization schemes and appropriate documentation

  • Will develop statistical analysis plan, including table and listing specifications, and guide others on the team in its implementation

  • Will program/validate statistical tables with an emphasis on efficacy endpoints. Provide proper documentation and oversee the work of others who assist in programming/validating

  • Will prepare and review reports. Contribute to the statistical methods section and verify for completeness and consistency for reports.

  • Will interact with the sponsor on all aspects of the project

  • Will understand project budget as it relates to project work-scope and communicate proactively with management concerning potential changes in work-scope

Education and Experience:

  • MS/MA degree in statistics, biostatistics, mathematics or related field and Minimum two years of experience required; Or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Or PhD degree in statistics, biostatistics, mathematics or related field and no experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong SAS programming skills and understanding of database structures

  • Ability to promote teamwork in a multi-disciplinary team setting

  • Strong knowledge of statistical principles and strong statistical skills

  • Proven performance of required tasks, as evidenced in outstanding performance in current tasks and/or documented record of accomplishments

  • Evidence of strong management skills, as shown through management of multiple projects and/or staff members

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Good organizational skills with the ability to adapt and adjust to changing priorities

  • Positive attitude and the ability to work well with others

Provides programming support to internal project teams for safety data review and signal detection activities. Develops programming utilities to enhance business productivities. Assists in business metrics reporting. Essential Functions: * Independently create, execute, maintain, and validate programs that generate ad-hoc safety data reports for client * Provide programming support to internal project teams for safety data review and signal detection activities * Provide support in departmental metrics development and maintenance * Interact with project team or client to understand the requirement and seek feedback on deliverables. Maintain the document throughout the development life cycle * Independently create, execute, maintain and validate programs that extract and combine data from the appropriate data sources * Develop other solutions and utilities to enhance Global PVG and Medical Communications business productivity Education and Experience: * Bachelors degree in computer science, statistics, biostatistics, mathematics or related field plus * 5 years of programming in clinical research or related experience * Masters degree in computer science, statistics, biostatistics, mathematics or related field plus * 3 years of programming in clinical research or related experience * Must have SAS or equivalent statistical/BI software package programming experience; * 4 years work experience on clinical safety data and use of standard drug coding dictionary. (preferred)Experience with business intelligence software, e.g., Business Objects, Cognos, MS SSRS, OBI (preferred) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Proficient in one or more programming languages * Knowledge of clinical trials and relational database structure (preferred) * Knowledge of AERS safety system or equivalent safety management systems (preferred). * Knowledge of Clinical Data Management and/or EDC systems (preferred) * Knowledge of GCPs and other guidelines/regulations, including international regulations regarding the conduct of clinical trials (preferred) * Ability to train and mentor others. * Demonstrated strong attention to detail * Excellent problem solving and innovative skills * Good written and verbal communications skills * Ability to independently and effectively organize and manage multiple assignments with challenging timelines * Ability to adapt and adjust to changing priorities PPD Los Angeles CA
