Job summary

The candidate will report to the Lab Manager and under their supervision support BostonGenes

laboratory teams with sample management and tracking systems/protocols. The candidate will create and oversee a new sample inventory tracking system using the existing Lab Information Management System (LIMS) and Benchling software. Once created they will assist in the transition to an end-to-end barcoding-based system for sample tracking and continuously update and improve the process as new tests are added. This candidate will also be responsible for handling and processing blood specimens for specific projects. This will involve basic blood processing techniques such as blood fractionation, plasma clarification, and cell isolation for downstream biobanking.

Responsibilities

  • Point of contact for specific contracted projects, responsible for sample management and processing under GCLP standards.

  • Routine sample processing, including but not limited to; RBC lysis, PBMC isolation, and magnetic enrichment.

  • Learning workflows across different teams to understand and implement end user needs.

  • Establish new protocols for receipt, storage and inventory of samples.

  • Facilitate registration of new materials or lots into the registry system.

  • Maintain sample storage and appropriate entry into inventory database.

  • Management of sample inventory including reconciliation, logging of exit from store and recording of sample location.

  • Facilitation of sample retrieval process, including appropriately logging sample use approvals and delivery of samples to indicated end users.

  • Use of benchling and LIMS inventory system to enter and track samples.

  • Responsible for packaging and returning specimens to path labs, physicians, or research labs.

  • Assist research groups with building and maintaining inventories, including entering items into inventory.

Qualifications

  • Minimum BS in a Biological or Life Science.

  • Minimum one year of relevant lab experience in a CLIA/CAP lab.

  • Understanding of HIPAA requirements.

  • Experience handling patient samples.

  • Experience within a shipping and receiving role.

  • Prior use of Benchling or record of learning other laboratory information systems.

  • Familiarity with general laboratory equipment and pipetting techniques is preferred.

  • Ability to communicate effectively across system uses and stakeholders.

  • Sharp attention to detail, specifically when typed information is needed.

  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 40 lbs.

  • Stamina to stand for extended periods during work shifts.
