The Biorepository Technician is responsible for acquiring the skills to do the receipt, inventory, storage, withdrawal and shipment of biological samples, clinical agents, and materials from multiple clients. These materials may be stored at temperatures below freezing with potentially hazardous properties.
The Biorepository Technician will support the inventory and distribution of clinical trial samples. The technician performs activities in support of daily sample management operations (inventory tracking, processing, distribution, storage, preparation, withdrawal, and destruction of biological samples). This position requires work with clinical samples at lower temperatures in a laboratory setting.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Technician is responsible for clinical sample receipt, identification verification, processing, shipping and storage
Processes large volumes of sample shipments received for multiple study protocols
Accurately prepares lab specimens and containers as required for testing for specific studies
Must be able to prioritize workload in response to the specific needs of numerous protocols and department
Maintains an efficient, well organized laboratory, manages supplies, and maintains quality control programs
Must exercise good judgement and independent problem solving skills
Ensures accurate storage for all sample inventory utilizing LIMS
Prepare sample aliquots when needed and make deliveries to clients as required
Accurately prepares samples for outbound shipments to central labs for long term storage and will work closely with Clinical Samples Manager to support sample pick up
Organize and maintain quarantined samples distributions for testing
Keep management informed of day to day progress, including deviations from the established process
Performs internal specimen consolidation and reorganization projects under the guidance of Clinical Samples Manager or desginee
Understanding the Standard Operating Procedures and equipment associated with his/her duties
High School Diploma required
Some undergraduate biological science coursework or certificate preferred
Ability to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents for up to 6 hours per day
Must use personal protective equipment and adhere to safety protocols
Must be able to lift, push and carry up to 50lbs
Must be able to use a computer up to 6 hours per day
Requires ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form
Requires knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Word
Prefer 1-2 years' work experience with data entry, shipping/receiving and sample handling/management
Prefer knowledge of methods to handle, process, and store biospecimens using a computerized storage and retrieval system (LIMS)
Prefer knowledge of Universal Precautions, general laboratory and quality assurance/ control.
