About the Opportunity:

The Bioprocess Development, Fermentation Research Associate III will joining our Upstream Bioprocess Development team and is responsible for the execution of fermentation and experiments to help enable the development of Enzymes for Codexis' different business verticals. The position will be on-site in Redwood City.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • The Research Associate will be responsible for executing all hands-on operational aspects of 10 L fermentations. This includes: cell banking, shake flask/seed train execution, hands-on running bioreactors, media prep, sterilization/cleaning, and sample handling/processing.

  • Running routine fermentation sample analytics using SDS-PAGE, CEDEX, Gallery, YSI or similar.

  • Monitoring fermentation experiments in real time and collaborating and communicating with other team members to troubleshoot issues.

  • Running primary recovery operations such as laboratory scale centrifugation, lysis, tangential flow filtration (TFF), and lyophilization.

  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment.

  • Keeping organized batch records and following good documentation practices, including following SOPs with strong attention to detail.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Microbiology or related discipline.

  • A minimum of 2-3 years hands on experience with bench scale fermentors.

  • Comfortable running multiple fermentors safely, with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent aseptic technique and experience working in a BSC.

  • Experience using standard process and analytical equipment in a fermentation laboratory such as: spectrophotometer, pH meter, centrifuge, incubators, metabolite analytics (e.g. Gallery, CEDEX, YSI), and others.

Additional experience that would be valuable for this role includes:

  • Troubleshooting fermentation equipment issues with the support of others.

  • Experience working under a quality system.

  • Previous contributions to internal presentations, technical reports, writing batch records and SOPs.

CODEXIS PAY TRANSPARENCY: The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Redwood City is $85,000 to $105,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Codexis is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
