Job Description
1.Perform a variety of routine and complex tasks associated with the installation, service and calibration of a diverse range of biomedical equipment and instrumentation.
2.Assist in the support of a systematic preventive maintenance program for biomedical equipment and instrumentation which may include entry into Computerized Maintenance Management System.
3.Install, qualify, maintain service, modify, troubleshoot, safety test, and calibrate a variety of biomedical equipment and instrumentation by interpreting engineering and vendor information, schematic diagrams and graphic illustrations.
4.Diagnose and correct system or equipment malfunctions by repairing or replacing parts to ensure that biomedical equipment and internal circuitry meets specified requirements. Make necessary calculations for computing circuit elements necessary to adjust circuitry to specified requirements as instructed.
5.Provide technical assistance and instruction to personnel in the operation and maintenance of equipment. Provide recommendations regarding purchase of biomedical equipment and instrumentation.
6.Meets departmental performance indicator standards on a consistent basis.
7.Maintains accurate and timely documentation.
8.Maintains a clean and safe work place.
9.Perform other related duties as necessary to support organizational, regional and departmental business and quality goals.

Qualifications

Associates Degree and two years experience in electronics, computer science, and mechanical or electro-mechanical repair required; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Or documented high level performance as an American Red Cross Biomedical Equipment Tech I.

Ability to read color codes on wiring and electrical components. Ability to comprehend and follow both written and oral instructions. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, biomedical and medical staff, and the general public.

A basic knowledge of e-mail, database management, spreadsheet, and word processor applications. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary. Ability to keep neat and accurate records.

Must be willing to be multi-task trained. A valid Drivers license with a good driving record. Ability to take support call.

Responsible for the supervision of equipment management system, performance of activities related to preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, calibration and repairs for complex biomedical equipment. Supervises and executes qualification on all types of biomedical equipment ensuring that the equipment functions properly and documentation is maintained that indicates the equipment is suitable for use in the manufacture, collection, storage or distribution of blood products. Participates in Validation Master Plan (VMP) development and execution. Serves as technical expert and provides support to end users. 1. Supervises staff including hiring, training, evaluation, and counseling to ensure a well-qualified team and operational success. 2. Supervises and performs scheduled Preventative Maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and other maintenance activities on basic and complex biomedical equipment. 3. Supervises and executes qualification protocols, documenting results of Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualifications (OQ), and Performance Qualifications (PQ) as necessary. 4. Maintains calibration status of equipment used in the preventative maintenance of equipment. 5. Serve as System Administrator for the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) used to track and maintain records on biomedical equipment. 6. Conduct technical reviews, manage data, generate reports, participate in change management activities, review and approve documents. 7. Develops documents such as job plans, protocols, Validation Master Plan, and other documents as applicable. 8. Monitor the status of corrective actions for problems and regulatory observations. 9. Assists in inter-departmental training on regulatory procedures and Computerized Maintenance Management System. 10. Ensure compliance with ARCBS directives, state and federal regulations, and AABB standards. 11. Ensures that operational departments have sufficient operating equipment based on pending equipment repair/ replacement to conduct collections and manufacturing operations. 12. Schedules equipment downtime with the appropriate operational staff to ensure that production and distribution impact is minimal. 13. Communicates with the operational departments for outside vendor's service needs or supplies / equipment. 14. Perform other related duties as necessary to support organizational, regional and departmental business and quality goals. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Electronics or Biomedical Equipment Technology, or related field. Three years related experience to include at least one year of supervisory experience; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid drivers license with a good driving record. Knowledge of operations in a biologics, pharmaceutical, or medical device-manufacturing environment required. Knowledge of federal regulatory and quality assurance practices / principles related to medical industry manufacturing required. Refrigeration knowledge preferred. Ability to interpret basic schematics, wiring diagrams and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical equipment and instrumentation. Ability to read color codes on wiring and electronic components. Must deal effectively with management and staff. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision required. Meet milestones and deadlines appropriately.
