Summary

The Charles George VAMC has an immediate opening for one (1) Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist within our Facility Management Service.
Responsibilities

Duties for this position include but are not limited to the following:
The Incumbent is recognized as a high-level BES Specialist who ls thoroughly familiar with the theory, design characteristics, operation, and functions of a full complement of biomedical equipment.
The Incumbent participates with higher level unit staff in developing detailed plans and specifications for the acquisition and Installation of new equipment. The Incumbent will research and write specifications for use in equipment contracts requiring service, preventive maintenance, and Inspections. The Incumbent will monitor the performance of equipment contracts to ensure that services are provided as required. The Incumbent attends meetings with contractors, suppliers, users, and repairers to develop overall equipment support plans.
The incumbent is responsible for inspecting new equipment to evaluate performance, efficiency, and safety of operation that will Impact contract requirements, warranty requirements, and safety determinations. The Incumbent is responsible for testing and evaluating existing equipment in order to determine if equipment is operating efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all applicable codes and standards. Based on specialized technical knowledge the Incumbent provides advice and contributes technically sound proposals for the solution of problems that arise. The Incumbent is responsible for tracking and performing scheduled and unscheduled (emergency) maintenance and repair of equipment to ensure that equipment Is operating efficiently, calibrated properly, and to minimize equipment failure/down time. Based on the outcome of testing and maintenance, the Incumbent will recommend, develop, and implement redesign, reconfiguration, or modification of operating procedures to reduce breakdowns, eliminate hazards, or enhance accuracy and reliability. The incumbent has the authority to determine that equipment is to be removed from service, allowed to remain in service, or be restored to service.
Incumbent is responsible for Inventory management and tracking of all necessary materials, supplies, parts, and testing equipment required to run an efficient and effective biomedical equipment support program. Work Schedule: Monday

Basic Requirements:

Experience and Education: Associates degree in Biomedical Electronics Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology or Biomedical Engineering Technology or in a related technical field such as Electronic Technology or Information Technology and two years of experience as a Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist, Biomedical Equipment Technician, Field Service Engineer, Medical Equipment Repairer, or Information Technology Specialist.
Or,
Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or in a related field such as Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) or Information Technology.
Or,
Completion of a military training program in biomedical equipment and two years of experience as a Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist or Biomedical Equipment Technician, Field Service Engineer, Medical Equipment Repairer or Information Technology Specialist.
Physical Examination requirements
English Language Proficiency: Candidates will not be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. chapters 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English. See Chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part. Grade Determinations:
GS-11: At least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level. Related experience equivalent to the GS-09 level is to provide support of medical equipment and systems, install, maintain, safety test, calibrate, troubleshoot, and support medical technologies such as sleep lab monitoring systems, GI endoscopic systems, dental imaging equipment, surgical equipment, and clinical laboratory equipment. Performs and documents all repairs and preventive maintenance activities and ensures that the data is correctly entered into the medical equipment management computer system. Utilizes schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals as guidelines for accomplishing work. Maintains inventory documentation of assigned networked-attached medical equipment/systems to include electronic protected health information (ePHI) requirements, Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), IP addresses, Access Control Lists (ACL), anti-virus software, and other necessary information. Provides biomedical equipment related technical training to peer and clinical staff.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-11.

Physical Requirements:
The work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, and frequent working in cramped and awkward positions for prolonged periods. Medical equipment repairers continually lift from 5 to 8 kilograms (10 to 40 pounds) and, occasionally, objects weighing in excess of 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Incumbent must have no physical limitations and may not be color blind.

The Seasonal Support Associate position is temporary and non-exempt, and schedules can include nights and weekends. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES Merchandise Presentation * Presents merchandise consistent with merchandising standards * Ensures the timely floor setup, including pricing and signage for sales sets, promotional events and seasonal business activity (excluding shoes and cosmetics) * Ensures direction of playbook and seasonal merchandise meetings * Maintains floor and stock areas consistent with store standards * Works as directed by the Operations Team Manager. Core Store Operations Receiving: * Performs the process of unloading and sorting merchandise cartons received on trailers. Moves new merchandise to the appropriate processing drop zone on the sales floor in a safe and timely manner utilizing equipment such as rolling flats, carts and z-racks. Processing and product Placement: * Performs merchandise unpacking and unwrapping to ensure readiness for merchandising on the sales floor. Applies sensor tags per company standard. * Properly merchandises new and replenished goods in accordance with plan-o-grams and store direction Price Change and Sale Set function/ Merchandise Return process * Performs the execution of all types of markdowns on the sales floor.
