Exponent's Biomedical Engineering Practice is currently hiring for an Associate in our Menlo Park, CA office.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Managing and executing specific projects related to orthopedic, spinal, cardiovascular, and diagnostic medical devices

  • Assessing biomaterials and implants using experimental and computational skill sets

  • Actively participating in Exponent's medical device practice, including analyzing bone implant systems, testing implant materials and developing finite element simulations of medical devices

  • Performing technical evaluations, analysis, and testing on the behalf of multinational medical device companies for the FDA and consulting in intellectual property and product liability litigation

  • Publishing at conferences and in peer-reviewed literature

  • Assisting in marketing the group's technical capabilities to clients and the scientific community

  • Developing additional expertise and gaining additional industry exposure through our unique technical consulting services

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field

  • Relevant industry or post-doc experience desirable

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated capabilities in the areas of analytical computational and experimental mechanics

  • Familiarity with multiphysics problems and solutions using COMSOL or equivalent software packages

  • Familiarity with mechanical testing of implants, biomaterials, and animal/human tissue desirable

  • Research experience applicable to medical devices highly desirable

We seek a Research Scientist, Biomedical Engineering, that will work with our multidisciplinary Brain-Computer-Interface (BCI) team at Facebook's Menlo Park office, where we are developing wearable BCI technologies for AR and VR applications. In this role, you will conduct analyses on neuroimaging data to develop state-of-the-art brain-computer interface (BCI) applications. Our projects leverage internal engineering resources to develop neural interface technologies not available commercially. We encourage our researchers to collaborate with external academic institutions and to publish in peer-reviewed journals. RESEARCH SCIENTIST, BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING (PHD) RESPONSIBILITIES * Apply state-of-the-art methods for non-invasive neuroimaging signal processing and analysis Collect, analyze, and manage complex neuroimaging datasets Diagnose and identify potential improvements in neuroimaging systems MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, neuroscience, statistics, or related discipline Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment 3+ years experience in biomedical signal processing, statistics and analysis Experience designing, debugging, and validating bioinstrumentation or imaging systems Experience with modern statistical programming languages, e.g. Python, R PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience in human neurophysiology measurement, human subjects research, and management of institutional review board documentation Experience in biosignal analysis or statistics 2+ years experience in neuroimaging analysis 2+ years experience with neuroimaging software tools, e.g. SPM, FreeSurfer, PyCortex Experience with hardware, e.g. DAQs, microcontrollers Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.
