Position Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences is seeking a Lab Manager to assist the department. The Lab Manager will assist in maintaining oversight of Biology labs in Reed Hall of Science to ensure safe and efficient laboratory experiences. In addition, the Lab Manager will help foster good will with faculty and students, communicate effectively, and display a commitment to the Mission of the University. Importantly, they will exhibit an active Christian faith in personal example and work-related responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be able to devote 1/3rd of their time to lab instruction and 2/3rds with facilitating other labs and needs of the department. This is a 10-month full-time position that follows the academic calendar. Hours can be flexible, and some work can be remote.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Procurement of lab supplies.
Supervise student teaching assistants (TAs) with applications, appointments, and hours.
Teach some introductory lab courses. Some upper division labs may be taught based on the lab manager's training and preference.
Oversee the stock room, chemical inventory, and safety data sheets.
Basic safety checks of first aid supplies, showers, and eyewash stations.
Obtain and maintain Global Harmonization Standard (GHS) training and hazardous waste training.
Member of the Building Safety Team, serving as point person for the first floor of Reed Hall of Sciences.
Maintain records for the department as it pertains to student access to the building, lab courses, lab rooms.
Assist the faculty and chair with various departmental needs.

The lab manager will predominantly work out of their provided first floor office. The duties of this job will require the Lab Manager to frequently walk, stand, sit, use hands, stoop, talk and hear, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. They will also be expected to use basic laboratory equipment such as microscopes, autoclave, pipets - training provided.
The Department of Biological Sciences consists of eight full-time faculty members and nearly 200 majors across the disciplines of Biology, Zoology, and Environmental Science.
