Biology Lab Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:

The University of Saint Mary is a Roman Catholic, liberal arts university. The Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division is a close, collegial faculty dedicated to the teaching-learning relationship. Candidates should be attracted to this type of environment. The Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division offers undergraduate degrees in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. The position is in the Biology Program and involves providing support to faculty teaching labs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Supervision of work study students including their hiring and their day to day management, including evaluation and completion of their bi weekly timesheets.

• Provide lab safety instruction to all student employees.

• Ordering of laboratory supplies in a timely fashion and maintenance of budgetary records.

• Coordinating with biology faculty and setting up labs for them.

• Cleaning up after labs.

• Maintenance of biology equipment including safety equipment.

• Maintenance of chemical and equipment inventories.

• Maintain personal protective equipment, spill response, and first aid inventory.

• Performing routine maintenance on instruments.

• Develop and maintain the chemical hygiene plan and ensure that its requirements are being met.

• Other duties assigned by the Division Chair or Program Director

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in a Physicals or Life Science field with preference given to Biology.

• Experience with office software is highly recommended and desirable.

• Candidates will be expected to be able to work under minimal supervision, possess a strong work ethic and demonstrate initiative.
