The Nisqually Indian Tribe Salmon Recovery Program is looking for a Timber, Fish, and Wildlife (TFW) Biologist filled at the Biologist 2 level. The TFW Biologist is responsible for reviewing Washington State Forest Practice Applications (FPAs) located in the Nisqually Basin and throughout the Tribe's traditional areas under the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Forest Practice Rules. The TFW biologist will also provide technical support for the Nisqually Community Forest Project, an ambitious effort to restore watershed function in Nisqually forestlands through ecosystem based management. The position will actively coordinate with local, state, tribal, and federal agencies to protect and restore watershed functions through riparian restoration, culvert removal, and forest treatments that promote forest health. Incumbents possess a broad knowledge of salmonid biology; forest and riparian ecology; restoration, monitoring, and evaluation techniques; treaty rights; as well as state and federal environmental laws governing forest practices. This position involves rigorous field work in adverse conditions. Please see the attached job announcement for more information.

Nature of Work: This is a professional level Biologist position responsible for providing intermediate level fieldwork, data collection, and analysis for an assigned program within the Natural Resources Department. This position assists the Program Manager with developing and implementing programs and coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies, other tribes, and the Nisqually Natural Resources Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises other staff or manages grants, contracts and budgets as assigned by supervisor.

  • Identify, develop, and implement prioritized data collection and monitoring projects.

  • Responsible for maintenance and organized storage of field equipment.

  • Coordinate with program manager for purchase of program supplies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of treaty rights, state and federal environmental laws and regulations and procedures.

  • Knowledge of sample design and data collection techniques.

  • Understanding of complex resource management planning and adaptive management processes.

  • Ability to evaluate and prioritize relative threats to Tribal trust resources and develop appropriate responses.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and relate to Tribal and community members.

  • Ability to collect and manage data.

  • Ability to represent the Tribe in a professional manner.

  • Ability to perform strenuous work in difficult conditions.

  • Ability to carry out duties in a safe manner.

  • Competent in use of computers to communicate and process information.

  • Knowledge of equipment safety and skills.

  • Knowledge of salmonid biology and ecology, treaty rights, and state and federal environmental laws.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Salmon Biology or related Natural Resources field and two years of related work experience.

  • Must have valid driver's license and be insurable under the Nisqually Tribe's policy.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: * Diagnoses and completes less complex repairs to generators and components at the customer's site. * Engages customers in a courteous and professional manner.
