We are seeking a Biologist to support the National Institutes of Health's (NIH), world renowned National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Bethesda, MD. Responsibilities

  • Develop viral vaccines, recombinant proteins and/or virus-like particles or monoclonal antibodies.

  • Perform investigations and documentation of cell line growth, optimization of cell culture/fermentation conditions, improvement of cell culture platforms, modeling of cell culture behavior, troubleshooting of cell culture/fermentation processes, and tech transfer of defined cell culture/fermentation processes to the clinical production facility.

  • Capture process descriptions and results in lab notebooks, tech transfer documents, and technical reports.

  • Independently set-up and operate bioreactors and other cell culture equipment required for development studies.

  • Expand Data Science capabilities in Cell Culture by providing rigorous quantitative data analysis expertise across project teams, integrating multiple sources of process and analytical data.

  • Develop new data management, visualization, and analytical capabilities for cell culture purposes.

  • Independently design and execute experiments that support cell culture development goals.

  • Lead investigational studies on mammalian process optimization or process robustness through independent study design and execution. Including:

  • Automated parallel bioreactor control systems (e.g. AMBR250).

  • Alternating Tangential Flow (ATF) for process intensification (Intensified Fed Batch).

  • Provide microbial culture expertise on related processes and controller systems, such as:

  • BioStat Q plus Controllers programming.

  • Microbial bioreactors set-up and maintenance.

  • Perform E. coli transformations and generate cell banks.

  • Develop upstream processes to support pDNA production for mRNA template generation.

  • Participate in project and laboratory meetings, keep current with compliance obligations, and be responsible for maintenance of the laboratory and equipment.

  • Contribute results and studies for publication in peer reviewed journals.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a program that includes training in statistics and/or statistical methodology is required.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of related experience is required.
