Job Description:

• Clinical duties, which include the following:
• Performing diagnostic work in clinical parasitology.
• Modification to research protocols in collaboration with supervisor and any PIs involved
• Report diagnostic results verbally (in person and on the phone.) and electronically.
• Furnishes guidance and instruction on proper specimen collection for parasitology.
• Will prepare reagents for studies and analysis, will conduct and assist in analysis of samples, maintain laboratory equipment.
• Clerical duties, data entry, answering the phone.
• Assist veterinary and graduate students with projects and monitor their safety and techniques and adherence to established

protocols in the lab.

• Assist with preparation of course material for Veterinary Parasitology classes and assist in Veterinary Parasitology

laboratories taught during each course

• Independently plan and assist in ongoing and new research projects as they are formulated, which may

include sample collection (blood, feces, tissue) from live and/or necropsied animals.

• Laboratory safety and BSL-2/BSL2+ compliance, including IACUC standards, Environmental Health & Safety standards, documentation and training of personnel.
• Bench work performing DNA extraction, PCR, sequencing.
• Performing related duties as required.

40hr/wk; Monday- Friday, 8:00 am- 5:00 pm (Exempt)

Non-routine laboratory projects and preparation for Veterinary Parasitology courses may necessitate early morning, evening or weekend work, on occasion.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Individual should be able to communicate effectively with campus administrative units (eg., Environmental Health and Safety), collaborative research faculty and staff, and veterinarians and researchers utilizing the diagnostic laboratory.

Expected Salary:

$46,000 - $54,000

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors degree in biology or a related field and three years of experience or Masters degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field
• Preference will be given to those with a demonstrable background in parasitological diagnostic or research experience.
• Laboratory management experience preferred.
• Knowledge of terminology, principles and methodology used in parasitological diagnostics and research.
• Knowledge of methods of data collection and recording.
• Skill in the use of microscopes.
• Ability to quantitatively analyze data.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to utilize problem solving techniques.
• Ability to understand and apply appropriate rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to parasitology.
• Knowledge of hazardous waste disposal
• Computer skills with data management
• Ability to maintain accurate records and data
• Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills
• Ability to perform multiple functions at one time
• Ability to establish an effective working relationship with other members of the Department and with peers outside the Department.
