This position is located in a National Park Service organization. The purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety of complex biological science technical support functions. Principle functions are noted below; specific program areas in which the incumbent may be involved are attached to the end of this document.

This is a temporary seasonal appointment not to exceed 1039 hours in a service year.Organizes, schedules, and executes a wide variety of established natural resource management projects. Plans field projects, independently choosing from among several possible courses of action at different stages of each project (e.g., selects site locations, sampling techniques, appropriate equipment, logistics, etc.). Collects and organizes field data using standardized data collection procedures and equipment; uses judgment to apply precedents and established techniques to new situations.

Ensures adequate quality control of data collected. Performs field and laboratory analysis of collected samples. Records all data collected and provides preliminary analysis and classification of the information.

Makes field observations of natural resource conditions. Evaluates observed conditions and problems, and interprets variables, trends, correlations, and interrelationships among data and conditions. Recommends management actions based on prescribed guidelines in existing park plans.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess AT LEAST ONE of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level (obtained in either the public or private sectors) coordinating and implementing projects related to resource management.

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Carrying out field studies on plants and/or plant ecology; inventorying or monitoring or controlling exotic plants. Use statistical methods and procedures to perform testing of field data collected.

Research activity or control program work, nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment. You must include hours per week worked.

OR

EDUCATION: Successful completion of one full year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position (such as horticulture, arboriculture, biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture). You must include transcripts.

OR

COMBINATION: Successful completion of an equivalent combination of education and experience.

I completed courses equivalent to a major in one of the above disciplines listed in A above plus appropriate experience or additional education. Note: The number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the amount specified by the college or university attended. If this number cannot be obtained, 24 semester hours will be considered as equivalent to a major field of study. and experience as described above.

The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
