Duties:

The Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at Genentech is seeking a highly motivated full-time computational biologist contractor to work with our team. The primary focus of this contractor position will be on the analysis and interpretation of high-throughput genomic and clinical data, to further our understanding of the interactions between the immune and stromal components of the tumor microenvironment as they relate to cancer immunotherapy. (A basic understanding of cancer or immune biology is a plus for this position, but is not a requirement.) A successful computational biologist contractor will be expected to:
Analyze and interpret high-throughput molecular data (RNA-Seq, single-cell transcriptomics, etc) in the context of biological problems, in close collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of bench and computational scientists.
Integrate high-throughput molecular data with clinical outcome data to inform research programs Contribute to publications in high-quality scientific, technical, and medical journals (and receive publication credit for these contributions) Create interactive visualization and analysis tools to enhance collaboration with bench scientists (preferred, but not required)


Requirements:

Skills:
High level of proficiency with R programming language and/or other scripting languages (Python, perl, etc.) Experience in the analysis, visualization, and interpretation of high-throughput data in collaboration with bench scientists and/or clinical scientists Experience with one or more high-throughput biological assays such as RNA-seq, exome-seq, ChIP-seq and ATAC-seq is a plus, but not required Outstanding communication, collaboration, and problem solving skills

Education:
Masters or Ph.D. in a relevant field (such as computational biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, genomics, statistics, computer science, cancer biology, etc.); or bachelor's degree in a life science field with at least three years of experience working in a quantitative biosciences position

We have an opening for a Software QA Engineer to support our bioinformatics AmpliSeq Designer software team. The individual will be involved in testing and validation of scientific applications that run on a cloud (AWS). The successful candidate will be part of an innovative multi-disciplinary team developing applications for Ion Torrent DNA sequencing. As part of this team, they will be expected to work in a fast paced, complex setting to hard deliverables in a collaborative environment. What will you do? * Design and implement tests for bioinformatics applications and pipelines, including AmpliSeq primer design pipeline. * Work with stakeholders to understand system and software requirements and ensure that test plans and approach are appropriate. * Review requirements and technical design documents, and provide feedback * Create appropriate test plans and test cases * Create and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks, including regression and integration tests. * Design and create appropriate stress tests for software systems * Create, review and track meaningful bug and issue descriptions using issue tracking software (JIRA) * Help in development and improvement of software development practices and protocols for developing robust, high quality software * Develop and track software quality assurance metrics * Stay up to date with new testing tools and test strategies How will you get here? Education/Experience: * BS, MS, in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Physics, or a related discipline.; Or 8 years of related industry experience will be considered. * Experience testing and validating multiple complete product development life cycles from concept to development to final release. * Continuous integrated platform experience, e.g., Jenkins * Automated test scripts and frameworks, including regression and integration tests experience. * Proven experience wring test plans, test procedures and test cases * Performance and stress testing of cloud-based applications. * Document, review and track meaningful bug and issue using issue tracking software (JIRA) * Some programming knowledge or scripting experience would be preferred At Thermo Fisher Scientific, each one of our 70,000 extraordinary minds has a unique story to tell.
