Department

BSD MED - Pulmonary - Mutlu Research Staff

About the Department

The Pulmonary & Critical Care section conducts clinical and research activities relevant to respiratory diseases and related physiology.

Job Summary

The Mutlu laboratory is focused on discovering the mechanisms by which altered cellular metabolism regulates responses to toxin exposure and injury in the lung. We focus on cellular and mouse models of lung injury and use metabolomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic methods to determine how these injury responses regulate metabolism and gene expression in vitro and in vivo. Specifically, using RNAseq, scRNAseq, ATACseq, and RiboSeq to measure gene transcription, chromatin configuration, and RNA translation. The candidate will perform research in the lab and develop and implement bioinformatic analysis. The Bioinformatician will interact with other laboratory members under the direction of Dr. Mutlu.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and assists research projects that integrate multi-omic data (bulk RNA sequencing, single cell RNA sequencing, ATAC sequencing, genotypes), statistical tool development and computational analyses.

  • Manipulates publicly accessible, commercial, or proprietary genomic, proteomic, or post-genomic databases.

  • Provides professional support to staff or faculty members in defining the project and applying principals of data science in manipulation, statistical applications, programming analysis and modeling.

  • Applies basic application of computational tools and information technology to gather, analyze and visualize data in biology and biomedical research.

  • Interprets data analysis of high throughput genomics, proteomics and genetic data.

  • Performs other related work as needed.
